November 30th Injury Report

By Christian Hardy

Quarterbacks
- Jay Cutler said that he could be very well done for the season. He has pins and screws in his thumb that could be removed in anywhere from 3-10 weeks. He said that he will likely miss the remainder of the season. This means that Caleb Hanie will replace Cutler as the starting quarterback for the last five weeks of this season.
- Kevin Kolb took all of the first team reps at practice today and he plans to start against the Cowboys on Sunday. John Skelton has started the last four games for the Cardinals (3-1), while Kolb has recovered from a turf toe/right foot injury.
- Michael Vick (ribs) threw the ball some in practice today, but was never able to put a helmet on. He was ruled out by head coach Andy Reid earlier today. Vince Young will get his third straight start.
- Chiefs head coach Todd Haley said that Tyler Palko will start one more game at quarterback for the Chiefs while Kyle Orton continues to learn the Chiefs' offense.

Running Backs
- Montario Hardesty did not practice today, Peyton Hillis did practice. I do not expect Hardesty today, and I did not rank him.
- Lions RB Kevin Smith (ankle) did not practice today. It is unlikely that he returns to the field this week.
- Lesean McCoy (sprained toe) has been limited in practice all week and is officially listed as questionable for Thursday Night's game. Both Dion Lewis and Ronnie Brown would split carries if McCoy were to miss Thursday's game.
- Michael Turner miss practice with a groin injuries. He has had some groin injuries in the past.
- Ahmad Bradshaw is unlikely to play in week 13.
- Raiders RB Darren McFadden (foot) did not practice today. It is clear that the Raiders are going to hold him out until he is 100 percent, especially the way that their offense has been operating without him. McFadden can be considered "doubtful" for this week, as of now.
- Willis McGahee (illness) did not practice today, per Lindsay Jones.
- Adrian Peterson is not expected to play this week. He did not practice on Wednesday. Looks like Toby Gerhart will make his second consecutive start.

Wide Receivers
- According to head coach Pete Carrol, the team will place Sidney Rice (head injury) on IR. He was already ruled out for week 13, but earlier today in a press conference, Carrol said that Rice will miss the rest of the season. Doug Baldwin, Ben Obomanu and Mike Williams will take over at the wide out position. If I am picking one for my fantasy team, it is Doug Baldwin.Tough break for Rice, who has been through multiple tough injuries in his career.
- Stevie Johnson was fined $10,000 for his illegal celebration.
- Jeremy Maclin (hamstring) was ruled out for Thursday's game. This will be his third consecutive game that he has missed.
- Jaguars WR Jason Hill was waived by the team today. Hill has been speratic in his career, but has never lived up to his draft value as a third round pick by the 49ers. Only eight touchdowns in his first four season (including 2011) and he has been very disappointing this season for the Jaguars, who desperately need a playmaker who catches the ball.
- Victor Cruz was listed on the injury report today with a hip injury. Should be nothing serious, and I fully expect him to play this week. The injury is expected to "slow him down for a day", but he should be fine for this coming week.
- Jerome Simpson did not practice on Wednesday.
- Mario Manningham has some sweling in his knee. His status for Sunday is up in the air.
- Cowboys WR Miles Austin, who has missed all of November with a hamstring injury, did not practice today. Jerry Jones insists that he will play this week, but if I had to guess, I would say he is a no-go for Sunday against the Cardinals. Looks like both Laurent Robinson and Dez Bryant will stay top 20 wide receivers for at least one more week.
- Denarius Moore did not practice today, and nor did Jacoby Ford. However, Ford did do some light jogging on the side, and I think it is likely that he plays this week.

Tight Ends
- Colts TE Dallas Clark (leg) did not practice today.
- Titans TE Jared Cook (concussion) did not practice today.

Defense/Others
- Ndamukong Suh's appeal hearing will be tomorrow at 3 PM EST, according to NFL Network's Jason La Canfora. His initial suspension was two games without pay for his outburst against the Packers.
- Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (ankle) was ruled out for Thursday's game. He has been in and out of practice in the last two weeks, but has not yet had a full practice. Nnamdi Asomugha (knee) will be a game-time decision tomorrow and is listed as questionable.
- Packers linebackers Desmond Bishop and AJ Hawk, who both suffered calf injuries in Thursday's game against the Lions, did not practice today, will not practice Thursday, and will both be evaluated on Friday. In terms of Erik Walden who was arrested on charges of suspicion of domestic violence over the weekend, is expected to play this week according to head coach Mike McCarthy. This, all according to NFL Network's Michelle Beisner.
- Falcons' top corner Brent Grimes has been ruled out for week 13 already. It's a good thing for both TJ Yates and the rest of the Houston Texans pass game. The corners behind Grimes (Dominique Franks and Dunta Robinson) shouldn't even be able to compete with Andre Johnson this weekend.
- Osi Umenyiora is not expected to play against the Packers this week. Other than Umenyiora, OT Will Beatty was placed on Injured Reserve. Beatty underwent surgery on the retina of his right eye and is unable to return to the playing field this year. Huge blow for a Giants team that is reeling right now.
- The Chargers placed OT Marcus McNeil on injured reserve and claimed Jared Gaither who was cut by the Chiefs on Tuesday morning.
- Ray Lewis (turf toe) was the only Raven who did not participate in practice today.

Fantasy Advice
- With Sidney Rice now out for the season, Doug Baldwin is a sure pickup. Tarvaris Jackson hasn't been awful this year, and Baldwin has been a factor of this offense at times in this season. This week, taking on the depleted Eagles' secondary, he is a high-end flex option. Also look for Zach Miller to possible get in the mix with Rice out for the year.
- I don't expect Kevin Smith to play this week with an ankle sprain. The Saints defense (who go up against the Lions this week) has let up big fantasy games to running backs before, but I don't think either Maurice Morris or Keiland Williams are worth a play this week in a standard ten-team league.
- Even if Lesean McCoy were to sit out week 13 (which is unlikely), Ronnie Brown and Dion Lewis aren't even worth a roster spot. If I had to pick one, it would be Brown who I would play this week against the Seahawks. Seahawks have a  very underrated run defense that allows just over three yards per carry. Don't like Brown or Lewis this week.
- Jason Hill being cut has no fantasy value to me. It might up Marcedes Lewis' value, but he has also been a disappointment this year.
- I do not expect Darren McFadden to play and did not rank him.
- Toby Gerhart against the Broncos would be a real nice play if Adrian Peterson sits out again. The Broncos allow just over 15 points per game to opposing running backs. 15 isn't all that much, but when Gerhart is getting almost every touch out of the backfield, you can't go wrong.

Injury Report for November 29th

By Christian Hardy

Quarterbacks
- Vince Young looks like he is on track to start again. Michael Vick, battling a rib injury, did not practice for his second straight day. Since they (the Eagles) have a short week, it is almost certain that Vick will not start on Thursday.
- Dan Orlovsky,  a member of the 2008 Lions team that went 0-16, has replaced Curtis Painter as the starter of the Indianapolis Colts (0-11). This is a sorry franchise right now, and I can guarantee you that we will see Painter on the field again. A couple other notes: Orlovsky will be the third starting quarterback for the Colts this year, none of which were named Peyton Manning. Certainly no fantasy value on this entire Colts team, unless there is an amazing matchup.
- Matt Leinart was officially placed on IR by the Houston Texans to make space on the roster for 36-year-old Jake Delhomme. Delhomme and Kellen Clemens will serve as the backup to rookie quarterback TJ Yates.
- Josh Freeman suffered a cut on the outside of his right thumb at a local shooting range on Halloween day. He got five stitches on the outside of his right thumb (throwing hand). The Buccaneers say that it has not affected his grip on the ball.

Running Backs
- Kevin Smith (ankle) did not practice today.

Wide Receivers
- Jeremy Maclin missed practice again on Tuesday. Much like Michael Vick, since it is a short week, Maclin will most likely not play. Look for Riley Cooper, and Jason Avant to get the majority of targets on Thursday. Andy Reid did say that DeSean Jackson will return to his starting role on Sunday. Hopefully this time, he can catch the ball.
- Another short week situation: Seahawks head coach Pete Carrol ruled out Sidney Rice with a concussion.
He is not officially out yet, but he is very unlikely to play.
- Broncos wide receiver Eddie Royal was in a boot on Monday after suffering a leg injury against the Chargers. We should know more about the injury and Royal's status on Wednesday.
- Vikings WR Michael Jenkins was placed on injured reserve.
- Cowboys WR Miles Austin is expected to return this week, according to Jerry Jones. Austin will be a huge game changer for the Cowboys, but will decrease the value (very little, in my opinion) Laurent Robinson and possibly increase the value of Dez Bryant. It really is a guess as to how the Cowboys' passing attack will work with Austin back, but that is just my guess, as a Cowboys fan.

Defense/Others
- Ndamukong Suh was suspended two game without pay on Tuesday for stomping on Packer OL Evan Dietrich-Smith. Suh was ejected in Thursday's game, but he also got this two game suspension from the NFL. However, after Roger Goodell and the NFLPA suggested that he appeal the ruling, he did appeal. If the appeal is rejected by the NFL, he will not be able to be with the team until December 12th. The NFL did say that they will get a ruling on the appeal before Sunday's game at New Orleans.
- Browns LB Scott Fujita was officially placed on injured reserve with a hand injury today. 2011 is his second season that he has been with the Browns.
- The Patriots released CB Phillip Rivers who played mainly in the slot in nickel and dime packages. More on NESN.com.
- DE Osi Umenyiora will miss significant time with an ankle injury that forced him to leave Monday night's game against the Saints. It is more serious that initially thought. When the injury first happened, his rutrn was probable, but just a quarter later he was ruled out of the game. Bad sign for the Giants, who need everyone healthy right now to have a chance at the playoffs.
- In other news, not related to injuries or depth charts; Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio was fired early this morning and was replaced by defensive coordinator Mel Tucker. Tucker will serve as an interim head coach until other candidates come into the picture. Then, the Jaguars general manager  Gene Smith was given a three-year contract extension. He has been with the Jaguars since 1994. Finally, but most importantly, the Jaguars were sold for $760 Million. Wayne Weaver, former owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars, sold the team (pending NFL's approval) to Shahid Khan. Khan tried making a bid on the Rams in 2010 but failed to purchase the team. Khan is a Pakistan-born entrepreneur from Illinois who is the head of Flex-N-Gate Corporation. According to Forbes, the Jaguars are the cheapest team in the NFL at the $760 Million that they were purchased for. The team is expected to stay in Jacksonville, and Khan has full intent of keeping them in Florida.

November 28th Injury Report

By Christian Hardy

Quarterbacks
- According to Chiefs' head coach Todd Haley, rather than rushing Kyle Orton into a starting role, Tyler Palko (who has turned the ball over seven times in two games as a starter) will be under center for at least one more game. According to Jason La Canfora, it would not be a surprise if we saw Orton go under center at some time in week 13.
- Michael Vick did not go through the Eeagles' walkthrough today. The Eagles play against the Seahawks on Thursday, so Tuesday becomes his last chance to practice. If Michael Vick were to miss this game, Vince Young would start his third consecutive game.
- Texans; head coach Gary Kubiak confirmed that Matt Leinart has a fractured collarbone and is done for the season. TJ Yates, rookie from North Carolina, will take the place as the starter for now. They will also go forward with Kellen Clemens as a backup, and they will sign a quarterback later in the week. Quarterbacks that are in the talks of that last spot: Brett Favre, Jeff Garcia (front runner), Sage Rosenfels, and Brodie Croyle.
- Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt said that he is "optimistic" that Kevin Kolb will return in week 13. According to ProFootballTalk, Kolb will return as the starter, rather than John Skelton, who is 3-0 as the starting quarterback of this team.
- According to head coach Jack Del Rio, Blaine Gabbert will remain the starting quarterback of the Jaguars despite being benched in favor of Luke McCown. McCown failed to take the Jaguars down the field, for a chance to take his team to overtime. Either way, the Jaguars are one of the worst teams in the NFL, and without their defense, they would be awfully close to the worst.

Running Backs
- According to Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan, Roy Helu will  be the Redskins' running back, "for sure." He also said that "..he was ready", among other positive things that he said about Helu. It looks like there will be no more Shanahanigans here, but don't count out Ryan Torain (or Evan Royster for that matter) until Helu does it twice in a row.
- Darren McFadden had a light practice on Monday. He did some running and some cuts on his injured foot. His status for week 13 is unknown. We do know that he will not return until he is 100 percent. Until then, it will be Michael Bush behind the line carrying the rock.

Wide Receivers
- Jeremy Maclin was not at the Eagles' walkthrough on Monday.
- Miles Austin, who is questionable for week 13, missed Monday's walkthough.
- Giants WR Mario Manningham is inactive for Monday Night Football against the Saints.
- Rams WR Danario Alexander is close to a return. He will be fighting for carries with Brandon Gibson.

Tight Ends

Defense/Others
- According to Gery Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Troy Polamalu, who suffered 'concussion-like' symptoms Sunday night, will be 'fine' for week 13.
- Nnamdi Asomugha did not participate in the Eagles' walkthrough on Monday.
- Sam Baker made his return on Sunday, but it didn't end pretty. Baker didn't finish this game, because in the game against the Vikings on Sunday.
- Browns line backer Scott Fujita has chosen to undergo surgery to repair his broken right hand. His season could very well be over.

Week 12 Pickups

By Gabriel Harber

I trust everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner, and that you made it through visiting with your in-laws without any Ndamukong Suh type incidents.  It was a great holiday for football as the Cowboys once it again made a winnable game unbearably nail-biting, Coach Harbaugh took home a victory, and the Packers smacked that ass once more.  Most of you are heading into the playoffs soon and this weekend could be pivotal for your inclusion or seeding.  Fortunately we’ve got some additions that are good for what ails ya.

The Pick Ups
Kyle Orton:  The artist formerly known as Neckbeard gets a second second (that’d be a third) chance in Kansas City and falls into a situation with some natural receiving talent.  Dwayne Bowe, Jon Baldwin, and Steve Breaston should all contribute to an offense that looks to be exponentially more effective than they’ve been the last three weeks.  I’m sure many owners dumped Orton when he was benched in week five, and rarely do you find a guy with QB1 potential on the wire right in time for the playoffs.

Steve Breaston:  His value is directly tied to how Orton performs, but with Matt Cassel (and even Tyler Palko at times), Breaston has excelled.  He’s one of the more underrated receivers in the NFL dating back to his days in Arizona.  If you can snag him before he resumes producing you could end up with a solid WR3 for the rest of the season.  Because of shear yardage production I have to believe he finds the endzone at least a few more times.

Caleb Hanie:  He couldn’t make it happen on the field, but from a fantasy perspective he certainly got the job done.  His three interceptions and sacks were offset by two touchdowns and 50 rushing yards, while he also passed for 254 yards totaling 16.16 points.  I wouldn’t expect him to find as much success through the air every week, but I have to believe he’ll get some check down TD’s to Matt Forte and Marion Barber, as well as cut down on the turnovers as he gets more reps with the first team.  All in all, I’m buying here if I need quarterback help.

Roy Helu:
  • Fact: Helu totaled 164 yards and a touchdown on 30 touches.
  • Fact: Shanahan came out and said that Helu will make an excellent #2 running back heading into the future.
  • Fact: Shanahan also said that he finally thought Helu was ready for a starter’s workload.
If you have any idea what to make of any of this please let me know.  I just know Helu must be owned if he’s getting touches.

CJ Spiller:  At least we have good old Chan Gailey who, staying true to his word, featured Spiller heavily.  Though he was far from effective, the Bills were also playing against a Jets defense that was backed into a corner with their season on the line.  If you have the roster spot available I would definitely pick up Spiller, especially in PPR leagues. Like I said previously, if he is getting touches then he should be owned.

Jason Avant/Riley Cooper:  The Eagles have a short week which means they may be rolling with the same offensive unit as Sunday’s game against the Patriots, most likely.  Cooper and Avant both played well enough to be owned as long as they’re seeing time and targets, and with Vince Young continuing behind center and playing for a contract I have to believe he’ll be showing the world what he can do.  Avant is the safer pick.

Marcel Reece:  Relegated to a makeshift receiving corps, Carson Palmer’s favorite target on Sunday was fullback Marcel Reece.  Reece, who was a wideout in college, shined in his expanded role and may be in line for a repeat performance given the battered and bruised state of Oakland’s offense.

Greg Little:  After weeks of teasing us as one of the highest targeted receivers in the league, Little finally found the endzone, rewarding owners who’ve stuck with him.  Peyton Hillis was back and added another dimension to the offense that the Browns had been sorely missing, opening the passing game up for Colt McCoy and company.  If you’re in a PPR league I would gobble Little up like Grandma’s leftovers.

I’ll see you back here next week!  Until then, be sure to shoot me any questions you might have on Twitter.

Injury Report for November 26th

By Christian Hardy

Quarterbacks
- Kyle Orton did practice with the team on Saturday, but he will be listed as the third quarterback on the Chiefs depth chart on Sunday. As I said in yesterday's injury report, Tyler Palko will be the starter.
- According to Reuben Frank of CSNPhilly.com, Vince Young was told that he will be the starter against the Patriots on Sunday.

Running Backs
- No surprise here, but Adrian Peterson was ruled out for week 12 with his ankle sprain. Leslie Frazier is hopeful that he can return for week 13 against the Denver Broncos. However, for this week against the Falcons, Toby Gerhart will start. He is not a great fantasy option, as the Falcons have allowed just one one hundred yard rusher in the 2011 season. I think you could do better than Gerhart in your fantasy lineup.
- Ahmad Bradshaw, who has not practiced all week long, was ruled out for Monday night's game against the Saints in New Orleans. This will be his fourth consecutive game that he has been ruled out of, and Brandon Jacobs will start in his place.

Wide Receivers
- Legedu Naanee has not practiced all week with an ankle injury, and he is listed as questionable. He is not likely to play. If Naanee is indeed out, then Brandon LaFell would become a nice flex play against the weak secondary of the Colts.
- More Giants news: Mario Manningham did not practice today and has not practiced all week with a knee injury. He expects to play, but people close to the situation do not think he will play. Since the Giants play on Monday night, you definitely need to stay away from Manningham. He will not be in my updated rankings.
- Patriots wide receiver Chad Ochocinco has a hamstring injury and will not play this weekend against the Eagles.
- Giants wide receiver Michael Clayton tore his meniscus. That will require surgery, which means that he will miss the remainder of the season. Tough break for a guy that, many have said, has shown some bright spots. Clayton was drafted in the first round of the 2004 draft. Tough break.

Tight Ends

Defense/Others

Injury Report for November 25th

By Christian Hardy

Quarterbacks
- Matthew Hasselbeck (elbow) is listed as probable. Head coach Mike Munchak and Hasselbeck himself say that he will play this week.
- Michael Vick did not practice on Friday, and he is not expected to play against the Patriots. He is listed as questionable.
- Signs point to John Skelton, not Kevin Kolb (toe), starting at quarterback for the Cardinals.

Running Backs
- Lots of news on Vikings RB Adrian Peterson today. We first found out that he "expected" to play this week, which proved to be false. We later found that he got the boot off and did some very light drills before practice, and then went into the locker room for treatment and never practiced with the team. Leslie Frazier said that Peterson is "very, very doubtful" for week 12. He is listed out doubtful on the NFL official injury report, and he is not expected to play at this point.
- Colts running back Joseph Addai is iffy for this Sunday, if you ask me. He was in full practice today, but the hamstring injury seems to be very tedious. He is listed as "questionable" and he will not be in my rankings. You definitely do not want him in your lineup, nor do you want Donald Brown or Delone Carter in your lineup. (Unless, of course, Addai is ruled out on Sunday. It is a very freindly matchup against the Panthers this week.
- Browns RB Peyton Hillis has missed the last five games with a hamstring injury, including aggravating the hamstring in practice about three weeks ago. Earlier in the week, the Browns ruled Hillis out for week 12, but, after two "rigorous" workouts on both Thursday and Friday, he has now been ruled a "game-time" decision. If I were you, I would stay away from all Browns running backs if Hillis is active. If he is inactive, then Montario Hardesty would become a nice flex play, but Pat Shurmur said that none of the Browns' running backs are going to get a full workload.
- After being deemed out for 2-5 weeks, Lions running back Kevin Smith was found to have a very mild ankle sprain and could be back in week 13. This is good news for the Lions, as Smith has looked better than ever in these past couple of games.
- Another reason Kevin Smith returning is good news for the Lions? Jahvid Best, who has missed the majority of the season with a concussion, was/will be placed on injured reserve, according to multiple sources, including head coach Jim Schwartz. Hopefully, Best can return concussion-free next year.
- After missing both Wednesday and Thursday with swelling in the knee, Chargers running back Ryan Mathews practiced on Friday, and is expected to play this week.
Ahmad Bradshaw missed practice on Friday, but Tom Coughlin said that "there's hope" for Bradshaw to play on Monday Night. We will see, but in the meantime, make sure to keep Brandon Jacobs and Bradshaw out of your lineup.
- Raiders RB Darren McFadden has been ruled out with a foot injury. According to Jason La Canfora, he could miss two more games.

Wide Receivers
- Julio Jones (hamstring) practiced on Friday and is expected to play on Sunday. He is listed as probable.
- Andre Johnson practiced, as he did all week long, and is expected to make a return to the playing field this week. He is listed as probable.
- The Raiders ruled out Jacoby Ford (foot) on Friday. Both Darrius Heyward-Bey (neck) and Denarius Moore (foot) are listed as questionable for Sunday.
- For the second consecutive day, DeSean Jackson practiced. On the other side of the field, Jeremy Maclin (hamstring, shoulder) did not practice for his second consecutive day, and is listed as doubtful for this week.
- Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones (reliable as he is, not) said that Miles Austin is questionable for week 13. Austin has missed the past three weeks with a hamstring injury, but Laurent Robinson has done just fine filling in for him, and the Cowboys are 3-0 without him on the field.
-To go along with the other probable wide receivers, AJ Green, who missed week 11, is listed as probable with a knee injury. He has practiced in full all week long, and is expected to play.
- Mario Manningham did not practice for the third consecutive day with a knee injury, but he seemed optimistic about playing when reporters talked to him, according to sources.
- The Chargers ruled out Malcom Floyd (hip) after he did not practice all week.
- Percy Harvin is listed as questionable after a limited practice on Friday with a rib injury.
- Seahawks wide receivers Sidney Rice and Doug Baldwin are listed as probable for week 12.

Tight Ends
- For the third straight week, Kellen Winslow did not practice on Friday for non-injury related reasons according to the NFL Injury Report. Just something I wanted to point out, I guess.
- Vikings TE Visanthe Shiancoe practiced on Friday and is tenatively expected to play on Sunday. He is listed as questionable on the official injury report.
- Colts TE Dallas Clark was ruled out on Friday with a leg injury (fibula). This will be his second game that he has missed, consecutively with his injury.

Defense/Others
- Bills kicker Rian Lindell (shoulder) is out again for the Bills. Dave Rayner will continue to kick.
- Steelers LB Lamarr Woodley is expected to miss a third straight game with a hamstring injury. Not only is Woodley expected to be out, but James Harrison was limited in practice with a back injury. However, Harrison is expected to play.
- Eagles CB Nnamdi Asomugha missed practice with a hyperextended knee on Friday, and he will most likely be a game-time decision. On the bright side, CB Dominque Rodgers-Cromartie (ankle) returned to a limited practice on Friday and is going to be a game time decision. Then against OT King Dunlap was ruled out by head coach Andy Reid on Friday.
- Buccaneers rookie defensive end Da'Quan Bowers is expected to make his first NFL start on Sunday. Bucs DE Michael Bennett has a nagging hamstring injury that will likely keep him out this week, which means that Bowers, who free-falled all the way to the Bucs at 51st pick overall (second round) in this year's draft, will most likely make his first start on Sunday. Definitely something that I will be watching, and you should too.

Injury Report for THANKSGIVING!

By: Christian Hardy

Quarterbacks
- Michael Vick (ribs) watched the first half practice from the sidelines, then left the practice field for the second half of practice. He is very doubtful to play on Sunday. It looks as if Vince Young will get his second consecutive start.
- Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck will forgo his senior season and enter the 2012 NFL draft, according to Yahoo Sports.
- Titans quarterback Matthew Hasselbeck practiced today and is expected to start.

Running Backs
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
- Kevin Smith will start for the Lions.
- James Starks is active for the Packers.
- Lions RB Kevin Smith left the game with an apparent head injury and went to the sideline. The trainers were later looking at him ankle. He was seen carted off the sideline in the second quarter and later seen in the locker room with his shoe off and ice taped on his ankle. FOX's Jimmie Johnson said a trainer told him that his return is "doubtful". UPDATE: Smith has a serious high ankle sprain and will miss the remainder of this game and will most likely miss "several weeks". I have also heard "at least two weeks" on the timetable for Smith.
- Ryan Matthews knee did not practice for the second consecutive day.
- Adrian Peterson did not practice. I am trying to find if the boot came off, like it was supposed to today. Stay Tuned. He has not officially been ruled out yet. Keyword: Yet.
- Darren McFadden did not practice.

Wide Receivers
- Your Eagles wide receivers update: Desean Jackson was limited (but almost full) in practice, and Jeremy Maclin watched from the sideline. It is thought that Maclin suffered a setback, and the hamstring is now a bigger problem than the shoulder. He also does not seem very optimistic about playing, according to multiple sources.
- Greg Jennings is active for the Packers.
- Denarius Moore was out of a walking boot and on the practice field on Thursday. He did not practice and did not have his helmet.
- AJ Green was upgraded to full practice on Thursday and he expects to play.
- Andre Johnson (hamstring) was a full participant in practice.
Julio Jones (hamstring) practiced today and he expects to play.
- Redskins WR Santana Moss did practice, and is expected to play.

Tight Ends
- Owen Daniels (knee) practiced and is expected to play.
- Visanthe Shiancoe and Kyle Rudolph did not practice.

Defense/Special Teams
- Eagles CB Nnamdi Asomugha was seen carted off the field at Eagles practice, according to multiple sources. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie has been missing time with a high ankle sprain, so it is likely that the only member of "the big three" that we will see will be Asante Samuel. UPDATE: Asomugha's injury is not serious and he should return this week.
- Ray Lewis will be a game-time decision for the Ravens against the 49ers. The decision will ultimately come down to warmups and how he feels. UPDATE: Lewis is inactive with a toe injury. He said "there is still a lot of pain down there" before the game.
- Cowboys S Gerald Sensabaugh is active and will start against the Dolphins.
- Lions DT Ndamukong Suh was ejected from the game after receiving an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. If you weren't watching and want to see exactly what happpened, then I will post a link to YouTube later on.
- Lions CB Chris Houston will miss the remainder of the game against the Packers with a knee injury.
- Packers LB AJ Hawk left the game with a calf injury. He was later ruled out of the game.

Injury Report for 11/23

By Christian Hardy

November 23rd, 2011
Quarterbacks
Mark Brunell received first team snaps for the Jets on Tuesday in hopes of motivating Mark Sanchez to play better, just as they did around this time of last year. Rex Ryan says that he doesn't envision ever sitting Sanchez.
Michael Vick will not practice on Wednesday. He threw some on Thursday, but did very very little.
- Jay Cutler will undergo hand surgery today.
- Kevin Kolb took 35-40 percet of the snaps in practice today. He says that he feels good, but and is optimistic for this week. He also said that it is too early in hte week to tell if he will be able to go on Sunday. Boy, do the Cowboys need him.
- The Texans placed Matt Schaub on Injured Reserve, ending his season with a Lisfranc injury. They replaced his spot on the active roster with Kellen Clemons, after working out five quarterbacks on Tuesday.
- Colt McCoy said that his shoulder has been bothering him for a couple of weeks but it is just general soreness. He said that he will be OK, according to Nate Ulrich on Twitter.
- Head coach Mike Munchak on Matt Hasselbeck, via Jim Wyatt on Twitter: "He has some soreness, but looks better. Will be ready on Sunday."
- Kyle Orton was claimed by the Kansas City Chiefs, according to ESPN. Since the Bears missed out on the Orton sweepstakes, they signed Josh McCown to a one-year deal. UPDATE: The Chiefs still expect Tyler Palko to start one more game, this weekend, against the Steelers.

Running Backs
James Starks was limited in practice with foot and knee injuries. He is listed as questionable and is expected to be a game-time decision.
Adrian Peterson will be in a boot until Thursday. If he is not able to practice by Friday then he will be inactive on Sunday.
Darren McFadden watched practice according to head coach Hue Jackson, per Paul Gutierez on Twitter.
Joseph Addai returned to practice and said that he is "ready to play".
- After Fred Jackson was ruled out for week 12 earlier Wednesday, head coach Chan Gailey said that he doesn't know if Fred Jackson will return this season. Some experts and myself speculate that, rather than a calf strain, he may of torn the muscle in his calf. For a guy that is already 30 years old, it just got a lot worse. In the mean time, CJ Spiller will take over lead-back duties and is most definitely worth a pick up. UPDATE: Fred Jackson was placed on Injured Reserve with a broken fibula.
- Montario Hardesty will start on Sunday if he is active.
- Felix Jones is questionable for tomorrow against the Dolphins.
- Former Cowboys and Redskins running back Tashard Choice was claimed on waivers by the Buffalo Bills. I'd expect him, after this week, to slip in and share carries with CJ Spiller until Fred Jackson returns.
- Montario Hardesty was limited in practice this week and he said that he will play as long as there are no setbacks in practice.
- Willis McGahee was a full participant in practice.

Wide Receivers
Jeremy Maclin (shoulder) was a limited participant at  practice, while Desean Jackson plans to sit out with a foot sprain. Maclin said the shoulder is still painful and the hamstring is not yet one hundred percent. Both Maclin and Jackson said "we'll see" in regards to their status on Sunday.
AJ Green said that he will practice on Wednesday. He is on track to start on Sunday, according to Rotoworld.
Denarius Moore was seen in a protective boot on Wednesday.
- Redskins wide receiver Santana Moss, who has missed the last four games with a hand injury, practiced today and said his hand is "ready".
- Jacoby Ford could be out of a walking boot before tomorrow. If Heyward-Bey (neck), Denarius Moore (ankle) and Ford were not able to go, then their three receiver sets would feature TJ Houshmandzadeh, Louis Murphy, and Chaz Schilens.
- David Nelson and Naaman Roosevelt did not practice today with undisclosed injuries that are thought to be health issues. It is nothing serious, and both expect to play.
- Julio Jones is expected to practice tomorrow. He did not practice today.
- Steelers wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders practiced fully today and is expected to play this week.
- Malcom Floyd did not practice.

Tight Ends
- Vikings tight ends Visanthe Shiancoe (hamstring) and Kyle Rudolph (quad) both missed practice on Wednesday.

Defense/Others
- Cowboys CB Mike Jenkins has been ruled out for tomorrow. This will be his fourth consecutive game on the sideline.
- Eagles CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie missed practice on Wednesday and is on track to miss his second straight game with his high ankle sprain against the Patriots on Sunday.

Week 11 Pickups

By: Gabriel Harber

The past three weeks have shown exactly why having a good backup plan is imperative, both in the NFL and on our fantasy teams.  Let’s say for example you were sitting pretty at 6-2 just a few weeks ago.  You had Jay Cutler, Jeremy Maclin, Julio Jones, and Ahmad Bradshaw all producing at high levels and with the combined power of your other studs you felt confident in your chances of making a championship run.

Flash forward to the aftermath.  You’re spiraling downwards quickly, about to be 6-5 and clinging to the final playoff berth with a matchup against the league’s best team looming next week.  At this point it doesn’t matter how well you play the wire, you’ve lost a significant chunk of production and you’re left wondering what you could have done differently.

Don’t be that guy.

Even though our favorite game is heavily influenced by factors outside our control, we needn’t be helpless.  There are a few simple steps you can take to give your team the highest chance of succeeding through adversity.  Place extra emphasis an acquiring high value handcuffs.  Research and find out which guys have shown promise in practice, training camps, and pre-season games and target them as throw-ins in your trades.  Scour the waiver wire for high upside players that only need a depth chart breakthrough to be great.  Stop holding onto that WR5 because you “just know” he’s due and fill your bench with speculative home runs.

Or you can just call Brett Favre, I heard he’s available.
Blank Stare

(Do not, under any circumstances, text him.)

Pick Ups
Jacoby Ford:  With the Darrius Heyward-Bey banged up (thoughts and prayers go to him) and a hopeful return date of next weekend for Ford, the window to pick up Ford uncontested is likely closing.  Carson Palmer looks for him when he’s on the field which should be more than enough for you to trust him too.

Kevin Smith:  Obvious add is obvious. 201 totals yards, three touchdowns. That is all.

Matt Moore:  Head coach Tony Sparano spoke about an emotion and fire that Moore was exhibiting during Sunday’s victory.  Now I’m no expert (at anything) and I didn’t stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, but there is something going on with the Miami Dolphins the past month that defies conventional wisdom.  Moore is playing at another level, managing games and daggering when necessary.  He had a career day yesterday with Brandon Marshall being a non-factor.  That’s impressive and an indicator of a player who isn’t forcing mistakes.  If you find yourself in quarterback damage control mode Moore is the guy for you.

Vince Young:  Michael Vick is banged up, and has a history of being banged up.  Young has been nothing but a winner his entire career (except that time when he was benched, and stopped producing) and as long as Vick stays hobbled I expect to him to make the most of every opportunity thrown his way.  If you’re in a keeper league this is a no brainer addition, as Young will likely be a starter somewhere next season.

CJ Spiller:  Fred Jackson has a calf bruise and that means that as unimpressive as Spiller has been, he’s still worth a pick up.  The Bills have been lining him up in the slot at times, adding a little icing on the cake for PPR’ers.

Riley Cooper:  Vince Young trusts Cooper, as is evidenced by the twelve targets tossed his way and the fact that Young looked to him with the game on the line.  DeSean Jackson is still in the doghouse and Maclin may not be cleared to play for a few more weeks.  If you need a fill in, Cooper versus New England looks as tasty as the Thanksgiving leftovers you’ll be eating as you watch.

Jared Cook:  This one’s tricky, as his value hinges almost completely on Mike Munchak’s decision at quarterback.  The Titans have a real shot at a playoff run, two games behind division leading Houston who is rolling with Matt Leinart the rest of the way.  The season concludes with a showdown at Houston that could potentially decide the division.  If the Titans stick with Hasselbeck then Cook loses much of his appeal, but should they choose to move forward with the future then Cook gains safety valve value for the talented young gunslinger.  Keep a close eye on the news coming out of Tennessee.

Nate Burleson:  The Lions (specifically Matthew Stafford) are throwing the ball as proficiently as they have been all year, and Burleson has been heavily involved the last two contests as defenses continue to load up on Calvin Johnson.  Throw in the newly established running game and you’ve got a recipe for success.

Backflips for Barber
Marion Barber:  The news out of Chicago is devastating.  Jay Cutler will miss at least the rest of the regular season.  I expect the Bears to limit Caleb Hanie by employing a two-headed monster approach in the running game, which is what Chicago has came out and said that they want to do.  Barber has shown he’s more than capable as a goal line back, and I would expect his touches to increase to around the 12-15 mark now.

Jake Locker:  Looking impressive in his first extended action, Locker almost led the Titans out from the claws of defeat this weekend.  He showed exceptional athleticism and poise as he threw bullets to Jared Cook, Nate Washington, and Lavelle Hawkins for long gains.  As mentioned above, look for the word coming out of Titans camp for news on what to do here. However, head coach Mike Muchak did say after yesterday’s game that

Toby Gerhart:  Peterson will likely sit a game, and that means a large workload will necessarily fall into Gerhart’s lap.  He’s shown speed and power in limited touches, but hasn’t really seen much action.  This is most likely a direct result of late season fumbles that placed him in coach Leslie Frazier’s doghouse last season.

I’ll see you back here next week!  Until then, be sure to shoot me any questions you might have on Twitter.

Week 10 Let Them Preach

By: Christian Hardy

Week 10 showed us exactly what the NFL is all about: Absolute tomfoolery.

In the early games, arch rivals Saints and Falcons faced off in Georgia with the division lead on the line, and boy was it a good one. It tailed all the way into overtime, which including a scrutinized decision from Falcons' head coach Mike Smith. Then the Cowboys won their second straight game, and this game against the Bills was never close. We saw another division game in the early games, and this one was a great one too. It was the Bengals against the Steelers, and if the Bengals could win this one then they would finish the weekend two games ahead of the division. Who would of thought that the Bengals would be in the discussion to win the division. Then last, and probably least, the Eagles collapsed against John Skelton and the Cardinals.

The late games were an even bigger shock thought. The Seahawks (huh?) defeated the unpredictable Ravens, in the same stadium where they upset the Saints in last year's playoffs. Then, the Bears clobbered the skidding Lions at Soldier Field. Two out of three games unpredictable? That ruined a lot of people's picks this Sunday.

It was a great weekend for football, and now I'm here to wrap it all up. As you can see, I summarized the picks from all of our contributors. Taylor's picks have no score because, well, he gave me no score. The record before the predicted score is the record of that person on this week, including the game that it is under. I decided not to talk about the games that do not matter, because, honestly, it is the same stuff every week with those couple of teams. With all of that said, let's move on to the games.

Oakland Raiders @  San Diego Chargers
1. Michael Bush could start to get more carries, even when Darren McFadden returns. While gurus were voyaging for a sleeper running back name, such as Taiwan Jones, the guy who really shined was the guy right in front of Jones, Michael Bush. Bush, subbing in for Darren McFadden, went completely berserk with 242 total yards and a touchdown. Bush has now averaged over five yards per carry in three straight games, including 5.2 yards per carry in this game on 30 (!) carries. If McFadden is out in the future, then Bush is a must start.

2. Vincent Jackson is the biggest "Whack-A-Mole" in the history of whack-a-moles. One week, the Chargers roll and Jackson puts up 32 fantasy points in a standard league, and the next week he has one catch for 22 years. I don't know what to think of this guy, but in my eye, he isn't even a top 15 wide receiver. Philip Rivers has too many targets that he can throw the ball to, and while that might help some receivers, it is hurting Jackson, and hurting him badly. Next time you get the chance, I would sell high on Vincent Jackson.

3. At this point, if you have a decent backup, it's time to let Philip Rivers ride the pine for your fantasy team. In eight of his nine games this year, Rivers has finished outside of the top ten fantasy quarterbacks. If you think you have a starter in him, then you are dead wrong. He now has just one game over 20 points, three games over 300 yards, and one game with less than two turnovers. He is an absolute turnover machine, and I don't see it getting better in the near future. His upcoming schedule is; at Chicago, who just forced six turnovers against the Lions; then he is against Denver, who has been getting better, and at Jacksonville where he could finally break out. If you are looking for Rivers to be a top 10 quarterback for you, chances are it isn't going to happen. Not this year at least.

New Orleans Saints @ Atlanta Falcons
1. There isn't any Saints' running back that is getting the carries to be in your lineup on a week to week basis.  For Darren Sproles, you have to solely depend that he is going to be involved in the pass game, or he can break a big gain from the flat. In this game, the Falcons had Sproles' number all day. For Mark Ingram, you are depending on a touchdown, and it's not even a sure thing that he is going to be in the backfield in a certain goal line package. Pierre Thomas and Chris Ivory are both just long shots for me; Ivory is still fighting an injury, and Thomas isn't getting the type of workload that is going to produce. For now, I think it is safe to keep all of these guys on your bench, except for the the possibility of Sproles in a flex spot.

2. Harry Douglas!? Seriously? Eight catches and over 100 yards?! I mean, I know that Julio Jones left with an injury, but who would of thought that Douglas would be the one who took over. In truth, and all seriousness, Matt Ryan played a great game. He finished the game with over 350 yards and two touchdowns (one to Gonzalez and one to Snelling), although he did not show up when it mattered most. I wouldn't be surprised if, after a game like that, Douglas gets a little bit more work in this offense.

3. This is one of the best games to watch every time these teams play. The two quarterbacks are some of the best in the game, and they are very fun to watch. Each of the last six games have been decided by 10 points or less, and the last four have been decided by just a field goal, two of which went to overtime. Drew Brees versus Matt Ryan is always going to be great, and I'm looking forward to seeing them face off again in week 16 on Monday Night Football.

Pittsburgh Steelers @ Cincinnati Bengals
1. The Steelers are a perfect example of why fantasy football is a major product of luck. Rashard Mendenhall had 16 chances to run the ball in this game. He finished the game with a 2.8 yards per carry average, but luck(ily), Mendy found the end zone twice, and it paid off for fantasy owners. Then, in the passing game, the one passing touchdown goes to Jerricho Cotchery who is the fourth receiver (with Sanders out) on this team. I'm not saying it is unpredictable, I am just saying that at times fantasy football is very lucky and some of the most unlikely things can happen. Maybe that is the fun of things though, because if someone could predict everything, every Sunday, then there would be no fun in the game. That's what makes fantasy football so great; the guess and luck factors and the chance that a winless team can win on any given weekend (unless you are the Colts, of course).

2. Even if he did only have one catch, AJ Green is an every week start (when healthy, obviously). He now has six touchdowns and double digit fantasy points in every game but one. This game he has a stunning touchdown catch in triple coverage. Andy Dalton loves a guy that can go and get the ball, and AJ Green does just that. I sat him this week (in favor of Jeremy Maclin, I know.) in my main league and it could easily cost me the game. Trust me, I will never sit him again, and neither should you.

3. The Steelers are going to continue to increase the amount of snaps that Antonio Brown gets, and it is well deserved. Although he is not a big red zone target, he is going to become a great fantasy play as a wide receiver two on a team that has a very balanced offense. With Emmanuel Sanders now out for a couple weeks, and Hines Ward being benched for Jerricho Cotchery, Brown is going to become the number two wide out for this team with no competition, and with the talent he has, the possibilities are endless. He is going to become the possession receiver that plays opposite of Mike Wallace, and Big Ben is going to throw to him, a lot.

(1-2) Christian's Pick: Bengals 24, Steelers 20
(0-3) Gabe's Pick: Bengals 20, Steelers 17

Buffalo Bills @ Dallas Cowboys
1. Tony Romo is at the peak of his game right now, and he is hitting it right at the right time. With DeMarco Murray in the backfield, Romo looks much more comfortable. To go along with the run game, his offensive line is giving him a nice pocket and he isn't getting hit: He has been hit only three times and has been sacked zero times in the last two games. Tony Romo is taking care of the ball and making smart decisions. As long as the defense and DeMarco Murray hold up, they could go a long ways.

2. Laurent Robinson is the Cowboys wide receiver that I would rather have right now. In his last three games these are his numbers: 13 receptions, 208 yards, and four touchdowns, including two against the Bills on Sunday. What about Dez Bryant? Well, while Dez sees tougher coverage, his numbers have not even compared to those of Robinson's. Dez has the same amount of receptions as Robinson (13), but 30 less yards, and only one touchdown in his last three games. Dez Bryant is always going to be a must start, but believe it or not, I think that Robinson is the guy who is going to score more fantasy points, as long as Miles Austin is gone.

Arizona Cardinals @ Philadelphia Eagles
1. The Eagles are one of the most over-hyped teams that I remember in the history of sports. That's all I really have to talk about for this game. John Skelton had a great game, but who doesn't against this Eagles' defense? It is terrible. The Eagles are terrible, and nothing is going the right way for them right now. Michael Vick has injured ribs, Jeremy Maclin has a sore shoulder and hamstring, Desean Jackson doesn't have any money, and therefore has an attitude problem, and on the defense, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is fighting through ankle injuries. This team is bad, and I don't see it turning around any time soon. Their next two games are against the Giants in the Meadowlands and then against the Giants.

(3-5) Christian's Pick: Eagles 31, Cardinals 13
(4-4) Gabe's Pick: Eagles 31, Cardinals 20
(5-3) Zach's Pick: Eagles 35, Cardinals 17
(4-4) Taylor's Pick: Eagles

Houston Texans @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
1. Right when the Texans were on the brink of their first AFC South championship, everything went terribly wrong. Their quarterback Matt Schaub hurt his Lisfranc joint in his foot, and it will require surgery. The surgery will cause him to miss the remainder of the season. It's a huge blow for the Texans, and might even give the Titans a chance to win this division, who are now at a 5-4 record. I expect Arian Foster and Ben Tate to take a huge load after the bye week, so both of their stocks will rise. I would drop Andre Johnson to the bottom half of number one receivers, but he is still one of the most athletic receivers in the NFL and Matt Leinart should have no problem finding him.

2. Preston Parker proved why is the only receiver worth owning on the Bucs. He scores points. Only seventeen yards in this one, but he found a way to get into the end zone. That's what counts, and that is something that Mike Williams has done only once all year. Parker isn't startable (none of them are), but he is certainly worth a roster spot, unlike Arrelious Benn or Mike Williams.

(4-5) Christian's Pick: Texans 20, Buccaneers 16
(5-4) Gabe's Pick: Texans 27, Buccaneers 17

Detroit Lions @ Chicago Bears
1. This is probably very apparent, but the Lions are not what they were when the season started. Their defense is crumbling up front, and their safety play is very soft, and we all know how one on one works. Not to mention the offense, which seems to rely on the production of Calvin Johnson. Without Jahvid Best and the run game to rely on, their entire offense, including Matthew Stafford, has fallen apart. Their receivers, other than Megatron, are not made to play 40+ snaps a game, so if a defense can find a way to double cover Calvin Johnson then it is game over. Stafford has become inaccurate, and he is making bogus throws and decisions. I really hope this Lions team can turn it around, I really do; it has been a great story. But if they don't start becoming more disciplined real soon, then it could get ugly, real soon.

2. Brandon Pettigrew? 77 yards in his last three games? Please, feel free to hit that "drop" button.

3. Bennett is definitely the top guy for Jay Cutler as of now (and that could change at any time, hence the "now"). Of the 19 times that Jay Cutler threw the ball on Sunday, nearly a third of them (six) were flying Bennett's way. Of the 123 passing yards that Cutler threw for, nearly two-thirds (81) of them were to Bennett. His nine completions? Six of them to Bennett. Bennett is definitely a great flex play from here on out, or until this stops. The Bears have the third weakest strength of schedule, in terms of fantasy points allowed to wide receivers with only Atlanta and Tampa Bay allowing less than 20 fantasy points to wide receivers. Bennett should definitely be on a roster, and maybe even in your lineup.

(4-8) Christian's Pick: Lions 24, Bears 20
(5-7) Gabe's Pick: Loins 27, Bears 24
(6-6) Zach's Pick: Lions 27, Bears 24
(5-7) Taylor's Pick: Lions

New York Giants @ San Francisco 49ers
1. Before we start the actual review of this game, I just wanted to say that both of these teams are very good, there is no doubt about that/ Yeah, the Giants didn't pull out the win, but they are still right on top of the division, and the 49ers have the second best record in the NFL. Does that tell you anything? Both teams have solid defenses, but the edge goes to the 49ers in this one. The offense battle could of been much more interesting had both teams' starting running backs been able to play in this game (and in Frank Gore's case, play the whole game). Look for either of these teams to make a long run into the playoffs if they keep this up.

2. No 49ers wide receiver really stands out to me, and I think you can drop all of them. Michael Crabtree was exciting for a while, but with Braylon Edwards back in these last three games, the only bright spot has been his touchdown in week eight. In the pas two weeks, he has just 72 yards and no touchdown. If Edwards is stealing looks, then you figure he is faring well, right? Wrong. He has just 119 yards in his last three games back from his knee injury. Neither of these guys is worth a roster spot right now, I would rather have someone with more upside.

3. We are more than halfway through the NFL season and the 49ers have still not allowed a rushing touchdown. Let's keep this real simple. If you have a running back that is going up against the 49ers (unless they are elite), then you have to sit them. Stats through nine weeks don't lie. If they don't let up touchdowns then they are not going to let up touchdowns. Simple as that.

New England Patriots @ New York Jets
1. Doesn't this game just get better and better every time Rex Ryan opens his mouth? It seems like every time Rex opens his mouth, he loses! This one at home against a Patriots team that has been ailing as of late. It's great to watch this Jets team season after season, and even better when you have Rex Ryan as your head coach!

2. Mark Sanchez can not perform under pressure. It's Sunday Night Football. Huge divisional game..no, not that kind of pressure. I mean, when his pocket collapses he makes bad decisions, sometimes he make the worst decision: To take a sack. Sanchez has shown some great signs of life this year, but that is one thing he needs to get better at, and it is one of the hardest things to teach an NFL quarterback. He has to know when to escape the pocket, when to get rid of the ball, and when to his his receiver. It's a split second decision, and some quarterbacks just don't have that. See: Tebow, Tim for all of your failing at pocket presence needs.

3. Plaxico Burress is now a must start until otherwise notified. He now has four touchdowns in three games, and an average of four receptions in each of those games. He is surely worth a flex spot every week because of the upside, but he is starting to slip into the starting wide receiver category. Keep and eye on Plaxico as he has some real juicy matchups coming up soon.
