Week 14 Bank/Tank

By: Christian Hardy

What do you know, gang. It looks like it's playoffs, which means it's probably the first time that my advice will help you win (or lose) your fantasy matchups. It's what you have played the first 13 weeks of the season for. Of course, if you are in the playoffs, I'm sure you never were actually taking my advice. That would be quite foolish. Furthermore, you need a win this week. Rather than picking bold picks for both my Bank and Tank, I am going to give you my locks (bank) and my guys that I wouldn't put in my lineup (tank).

What it comes down to in these last couple of weeks is the players that you can depend on to score at least eight points, and not screw the pooch. Essentially, it come down to what you and I look for in the draft: consistency. Consistency is what wins fantasy matchups. If your consistent team stays healthy and produces throughout the season, then you are in. Simple, right? Well, not so much.

My point is, consistency is the key to fantasy football. Don't be that guy who sticks DeSean Jackson or Vincent Jackson in your lineup because of his upside when he has not produced for weeks on end. Don't be that guy that says, "He'll do it this week," because if you are saying bogus such as that, then that guy isn't consistent. Consistency is king, especially in playoffs.

My last thing is, go with your gut. I mean, it's always great to get a second opinon on something. That's not uncommon. What I am saying is, don't let someone make the decision for you. You need to have the last say about who you put in your lineup. If you feel confident about a certain player in your lineup, then don't second guess yourself, even if you have second guessed yourself before.

I guess what I am saying here is: Be smart. It's the playoffs, and that means that there are jellybeans on the line for some (most) of us. Put your money on the guys that you can trust, not the guy that has his ups and downs. Enough of moral talk, let's move on to the real action: Bank and Tank for week 14. This entire week I have been saying to myself just how weird that "week 14" sounds. I cannot believe we have just four more weeks of regular season football left. Sad, but exciting at the same time.

Bank
Matthew Stafford vs Minnesota - It doesn't get much better than this. Stafford, who has double digit points in all but one week this year, takes on the worst fantasy pass defense. The Vikings allow 18.8 points per game to opposing quarterback, including 22.5 points allowed per game since the week 9 bye. Get Stafford in your lineup for this week.

Rex Grossman vs New England - The Patriots allow the third most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks by allowing 17.8 points per game. Grossman was shut down by the Jets last week (four points), but in the two games before that, Grossman had 40 points combined. If you are scrambling, Grossman is a decent start against the weak pass defense of the Patriots'.

QB Lock - Tony Romo is a lock this week. Traditionally very good against the Giants, and the Cowboys tend to be pass happy against the Giants. If you own Romo, you are starting him.

Shonn Greene vs Kansas City- I expect the Jets to get up early in this game, ad I think that they are going to put the ball on the ground very often. The Chiefs allow 18.1 points to opposing running backs, but they have only allowed three rushing touchdowns in their last seven games. I think Greene touches the ball a lot and he is guaranteed to get a serviceable amount of points, but the Chiefs haven't been all that vulnerable on the ground. I would expect eight to 15 points from Greene against in the Meadowlands this weekend, solely based on the amount of times he is going to touch the ball.

Reggie Bush vs Philadelphia - I think we all know this by now: The Eagles are real bad, and the Dolphins are on fire. Bush has double digit fantasy points in four of his last five games, and the eagles allow almost twenty points per game to opposing running backs. Not only are they letting up fantasy points, but they have given up four rushing touchdowns in the last two games. Get Bush in your lineup this week. Consistency is key, and Bush has been as consistent as can get.

Roy Helu vs New England - Shanahan had made up his mind (for once) -- Helu is a feature back, and it's going to stay that way (yeah, right). The Patriots have allowed a rushing touchdown in each of their last two games, and if anyone is going to get that touchdown, it's Helu. Helu now has 57 (!!!) touches in his last two games combined, while Ryan Torain and Evan Royster have just one touch combined. I can't believe I am saying this, but Helu (under Mike Shanahan) is a top ten running back this week because of the sheer amount of carries that he has gotten in each of his last two games.

Percy Harvin @ Detroit - With Chris Houston doubtful to play this week with a knee injury, the Lions are going to be as vulnerable as ever through the air. They have given up 27 points (vs Carolina), 33 points (vs Green Bay), and 30 points (vs New Orleans) in their last three games. The pass defense has been lacking, and oh, did I mention that Harvin has been a top receiver down the stretch? Harvin has four receiving touchdowns as well as 59 points in his last three games. If Ponder is active, remember he has that hip injury, then Harvin is a great play this week.

Steve Johnson vs San Diego - I know it is hard to trust the Bills, who have had their ups and downs this year, especially when it comes down to the fantasy playoffs. But Steve Johnson, a guy that I have always liked a lot, has a touchdown in each of his last two games, as well as 13 receptions in those two games combined. The Chargers pass defense, in weeks 7 through 11 (before they took on the Broncos and Jaguars in weeks 12 and 13), was awful. They allowed 28 points per game to opposing wide receiver in that span of games (weeks 7-11) and couldn't stop a nose bleed. Johnson is a nice play here, as I expect him to find his way into the end zone.

Kellen Winslow @ Jacksonville - Winslow consistently puts up serviceable fantasy numbers, and is always a fairly big part of the Bucs' offense. The Jaguars allow the third most fantasy points to opposing tight ends. If you didn't draft one of those stud tight ends, then Winslow might just be your best option this week, although he has not found the end zone since week nine.

Tank
Andy Dalton vs Houston - If you have made it this far, chances are, you aren't starting Dalton. But if you are: Here's your sign. The Texans have not allowed two touchdowns to an opposing quarterback since week 5. Is that enough to keep him on your bench? Should be. More of the Texans pass defense comes up later one.

Mark Sanchez vs Kansas City - Since allowing eight touchdowns in their first two games through the air, their defense has been much improved. The Chiefs' defense kept Ben Roethlisberger in check on national television just two weeks ago, and to a lesser extent, help Caleb Hanie to negative fantasy points. Keep Sanchez on your bench.

Cedric Benson vs Houston - It's real tough for Benson owners right now. First Steelers, and now the Texans -- two of the top rush defenses in in the league. The Texans have not allowed a rushing touchdown to a running back since week 8. You heard me right. Keep Benson on the bench, as I figure you have better options heading into your league's playoffs.

Steven Jackson @ Seattle - Ok, don't go out and literally put Jackson on your bench just because I don't like him this week (read the intro again, if you really were going to do that). Seattle's defense has faltered in the last couple of weeks against the aforementioned Roy Helu and Leseasn McCoy. However, they have still only allowed six rushing touchdowns (to running backs) this year, and only two since week four. With both Bradford and Feeley injured, the focus of the Seahawk's defense is going to be Jackson. With Tom Bradstate under center, and CenturyLink Field is going to be roaring on primetime national television, I don't see Jackson breaking eight points this week. Look elsewhere.

Panthers running backs vs Atlanta - Teams tend not to run that often against Atlanta. From weeks 4-12, no team rushed the ball over 20 times with their running backs against the Falcons. In week four against the Falcons, both running backs did squat, but Stewart managed to save the day with a touchdown. Atlanta has really stepped their run defense up since then, and I don't think either of these two (Williams or Stewart) sniff double digits.

AJ Green @ Houston - This is another guy that you aren't going to literally sit, but I don't expect too much out of him. Jonathan Joseph will be on him, and you might know how much confidence I have in Joseph. In the last seven games, the Texans have allowed just four touchdowns to opposing wide receivers. Green is still a wide receiver number two for this week, but not a number one, like he has been.

Marques Colston vs Tennessee - No, it's not Tennessee's amazing defense, it's Colston. Since week 7 in  which Colston went off for two touchdowns, Coltston has zero touchdowns and only one game in double digits. That's the story of Saints receivers. Stay away from Colston's inconsistency in the fantasy playoffs.

Jermaine Gresham vs Houston - Houston has the third best fantasy defense againt opposing tight ends, and have not allowed a touchdown to a tight end since week seven. While Gresham has put up nice fantasy numbers the past couple of weeks, he should be on your bench this week.

December 9th Injury Report

By: Christian Hardy

Quarterbacks
- Ben Roethlisberger's ankle/leg injury was confirmed to be a high ankle sprain after an MRI on Monday. Roethlisberger said that he thought it was a broken leg when it first happened. According to multiple sources, Roethlisberger was seen leaving the stadium on Thursday night in a boot. His status for week 15 is in doubt.
- Another quarterback was injured in Thursday Night's showdown. Browns quarterback Colt McCoy sustained a concussion in the fourth quarter on a hit from Steelers linebacker James Harrison. Browns ex-center LeCharles Bently that McCoy should not have been allowed back in the game, and it was clear that he had a concussion. In the post game press conference, the Browns PR guy asked if the bright lights could be turned down or off. This is an ongoing issue, and the NFL has to address it. Referees need to be able to tell players that they can not return when they see any signs of a concussion. The Browns stick to their case that Colt seemed OK, although that sounds unlikely to me.
Josh Freeman (shoulder) practiced today, and looks very likely to start on Sunday after missing week 13.
- Vikings rookie quarterback Christian Ponder (hip) returned to practice today but was limited. He is listed as questionable, and will be a game-time decision on Sunday. Keep him out of your fantasy lineups.
- Chiefs quarterback Kyle Orton (finger) was limited in practice on Friday for the third consecutive day. He is officially listed as doubtful to play this week.
- Rams quarterbacks Sam Bradford (ankle) and AJ Feeley (finger) did not practice on Friday. Both Tom Bradstater and recently-acquired Kellen Clemens split first-team reps in Friday's practice. Being a Monday night game, we will not get Bradford's or Feeley's official status until Saturday, but neither is expected to play.

Running Backs
Lions running back Kevin Smith (ankle) started practe with the team on Friday, but did not finish after he could not cut on the ankle. He is listed as questionable on the official injury report.
- Broncos running back Willis McGahee (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game after practicing for his first time on Friday.
- Bengals RB Cedric Benson (foot) practiced on Friday and is listed as probable for Sunday's game against the Texans.
Ahmad Bradshaw (foot) and Brandon Jacobs (hamstring) both returned to practice on Friday and are expected to play this week. Both running backs were limited and are listed as probable for Sunday Night's game against the Cowboys.
- The Packers ruled out running back James Starks (ankle) today. Ryan Grant and rookie Brandon Saine will share the majority of the carries.
- The Saints ruled out rookie running back Mark Ingram (turf toe) today. Darren Sproles and Pierre Thomas should both be in your lineup with Ingram now out, as both shold get 10-15 touches in this explosive offense of the Saints.
- Cowboys running back Phillip Tanner was place on injured reserve today with a hamstring injury.
- Vikings running back Adrian Peterson (ankle) said that his ankle is "about 80 percent" and he is listed as questionable for Sunday's game. He is likely to be a game-time decision, but Leslie Frazier said that the decision will be made amongst the team before Sunday.
- Cardinals running back Beanie Wells (knee, thumb, hamstring) is listed as probable to play against the 49ers. It seems like Wells' injuries have become a week-to-week thing for fantasy owners. Keep an eye on it, as always.

Wide Receivers
- Today after Texans' practice, head coach Gary Kubiak ruled Andre Johnson (hamstring), who did not practice on Friday, out for Sunday's game. Kevin Walter also missed practice on Friday with an illness, and is listed as questionable for Sunday. Jacoby Jones will start in place of the injured Andre Johnson.
- Cowboys wide receiver Laurent Robinson (shoulder) was limited in practice today and is listed as questionable. Robinson said that he thinks that he will be able to play.
- Raiders wide receivers Jacoby Ford (foot) and Denarius Moore (foot) did not practice on Friday and are officially out on Sunday.
- Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Maclin (hamstring) is listed as probable after practicing in limited fashion all week long.
- Broncos wide receiver Eddie Royal is listed as questionable with a concussion.
- 49ers wide receiver Braylon Edwards (knee) is listed as questionable to play against the Cardinals, but is expected to play.
- Falcons wide receivers Roddy White (shoulder), Julio Jones (hamstring), and Harry Douglas (groin) are all listed as probable for Sunday's game.

Tight Ends
- Colts tight end Dallas Clark is going to be back this week after practicing in full all week long.
- Cowboys tight end Martellus Bennett (ribs) did not practice on Friday and is listed as doubtful.
- Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis (ankle) was a full participant in practice all week long, and is listed as probable.

Defense/Others
- The Jaguars placed defensive end Aaron Kampman on injured reserve today for the second straight year with the team, and the third straight in the NFL.
- Ravens kicker Billy Cundiff (calf) is listed as questionable and will be a game-time decision.
- 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis (hamstring) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
- Broncos rookie linebacker Von Miller (thumb) is listed as probable to play against the Bears. Miller did practice on Friday.
- Lions corner back Chris Houston (knee) is listed as doubtful after not practicing all week long.
- Cowboys linebacker Demarcus Ware (neck) returned to a full practice on Friday and is listed as questionable.
- Buccaneers corner back Aqib Talib (hamstring) has been ruled out for week 14.
- Eagles corner backs Nnamdi Asomugha and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie practiced on Friday. Asomugha is listed as probable, while DRC is listed as questionable.
- Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora (ankle) has been ruled out for week 14.
- Cardinals safety Kerry Rhodes (foot) practiced on Friday and looks like he is going to return in week 14. Rhodes is officially listed as questionable.
- Lions defensive end Nick Fairley (foot) did not practice all week long with a foot injury. He is questionable, but is not expected to play.

December 8th Injury Report

By: Christian Hardy

Quarterbacks
- According to Jim Irsay, Peyton Manning is unlikely to be seen on the field in 2011. Exact quote: Irsay said that he doesn't "envision Peyton playing this season."
- Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder was not at practice on Thursday with a hip injury. Offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave is not confident that Ponder will play this week. Ponder has now missed two consecutive days of practice. Joe Webb took first team reps in place of Ponder. If Ponder does not practice on Friday then he will not play in week 14.
- Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman was at practice and did "extensive throwing" on Thursday. He expects to play on Sunday.
- Chiefs quarterback Kyle Orton practiced on a limited basis for the second consecutive day on Thursday.
- Both Sam Bradford (ankle) and AJ Feeley (finger) did not practice for teh second consecutive day on Thursday. Tom Brandstater has taken first team reps on Wednesday and Thursday and would start if Bradford and Feeley were to miss Sunday's game.
- Ben Roethlisberger left Thursday's game with an ankle injury. More to come when more information is known on the situation. It looked ugly, I cna tell you that much.

Running Backs
- Kevin Smith (ankle) did not practice on Thursday, but will try to do some drills on Friday.
- Raiders running back Darren McFadden (foot) will not play in week 14, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Michael Bush will start at running back for the Raiders.
- Brandon Jacobs (hamstring) and Ahmad Bradshaw (foot) did not practice on Thursday, but are expected to practice on Friday according to head coach Tom Coughlin.
- Both Peyton Hillis (hip) and Montario Hardesty (calf)are active for Thursday Night Football against the Steelers.
- Jonathan Dwyer was placed on Ir by the Steelers today.
- Cardinals running back Beanie Wells was limited in practice with a knee injury on Thursday.
- Buccaneers running back Mossis Madu is expected to get more work in week 14. He is expected to surpass Kregg Lumpkin in snaps, but should be no threat to Blount's carries.
- Michael Turner was limited in practice on Thursday.
- Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was a limited participant in practice on Thursday. Head coach Leslie Frazier said that Peterson had no pain in his ankle during the practice, in which he ran and cut.
- Broncos running back Willis McGahee did not practice Thursday with a knee injury, but he says that he will play on Sunday.
- Saints rookie running back Mark Ingram (turf toe) did not practice on Thursday.
- Packers running back James Starks (ankle) did not practice on Thursday.

Wide Receivers
- In NFL Draft news: Oklahoma State wide receiver Justin Blackmon is expected to file paperwork to enter the NFL Draft. Also, Ryan Broyles, who tore his ACL just a couple of weeks ago, will not run at full speed until May, and as you know, the draft is in April. Huge hit to one of the most talented wide receivers in the draft.
- For the Cowboys wide receivers: Laurent Robinson (shoulder) was unable to practice for the second consecutive day while Miles Austin (hamstring) was a full participant in practice. I would expect to see Robinson limited in practice on Friday, at the least.
- Giants wide receiver Mario Manningham (knee) was limited in practice on Thursday. If he practices on Friday, he is likely to be a go against the Cowboys on Sunday night.
- Both Oakland wide receivers Jacoby Ford (foot) and Denarius Moore (foot) did not practice on Thursday.
- An update on the status of the Falcons wide receivers: Julio Jones (hamstring) was limited, while Roddy White (shoulder) returned to a full practice.
- Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Maclin was a limited participant in practice for the second consecutive day.
- Titans wide receiver Nate Washington (ankle) did not practice on Thursday, but there is a good chance that he will try to give it a go on Sunday.
- Browns wide receiver Josh Cribbs left yesterday''s game in the second quarter and never returned.

Tight Ends
- Colts tight end Dallas Clark (tibia) was a full participant in practice for the second consecutive day.
- Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis (ankle) was a full participant in practice on Thursday.
- Bills tight end Scott Chandler (ankle) is not expected to play in week 14, and has not practiced all week.
- Browns tight end Benjamin Watson left the game with a head injury and was later ruled out of the game.

Others
- LaMarr Woodley was officially ruled out for Thursday Night Football against the Browns with a hamstring injury. He was already unlikely to play.
- Eagles linebacker Jamar Chaney was benched today in practice in favor of Casey Matthews. Matthews is expected to start in place on Chaney on Sunday.
- Raiders head coach Hue Jackson said that if any of his players want to return against the Packers on Sunday then they would have to practice on Friday (Darren McFadden, Jacoby Ford, Denarius Moore)
- Steelers nose tackle Chris Hoke (neck) was placed on season-ending Injured Reserve, and could quite possibly end the 35-year old's career.

Week 13 NFL Power Rankings

By Anh Vo

1)      Green Bay Packers (12-0)[Last Week: 1] – The Packers’ defense again gave up some big plays which led to big points, but their offense came through in the clutch. The perfect season is now one game closer.

2)      New England Patriots (9-3) [Last Week: 2]  – The Patriots offense showed up as usual and did their thing, but surprisingly the defense gave up a lot of points to the Colts. The Patriots are still experimenting with their backup players on defense, but time is running out as the playoffs are only a couple of weeks away. It’s concerning when Dan Orlovsky was able to burn the defensive backs the way he did.

3)      Baltimore Ravens (9-3) [Last Week: 3] – Just another game for the Ravens. They were successful with the running game as Ray Rice went off on the Browns, but their passing game was unimpressive yet again as Joe Flacco was only 10/23 for 158 yards.

4)      New Orleans Saints (9-3) [Last Week: 4] – Another week, another high scoring game for the Saints as they carved up the Lions’ defense both in the air and on the ground.

5)      Pittsburgh Steelers (9-3) [Last Week: 5] – The Steelers’ offense showed up the last game after a disappointing performance two weeks ago against the Chiefs. Balanced offensive attack as their top players all scored this game (Ben Roethlisberger, Rashard Mendenhall, and Mike Wallace). They should put up similar numbers this week against the Browns.

6)      Dallas Cowboys (7-5) [Last Week: 6] – Good defensively against the Cardinals throughout the game…except for the last drive in overtime. Where was the offense in this game against a poor Cardinals defense?! The Cardinals are just playing spoilers at this point and they did just that to a Cowboys team vying for the top spot in the division. The good news is that Miles Austin is ready to suit up in the showdown with the Giants.

7)      Houston Texans (9-3) [Last Week: 7] – The Falcons’ defense was able to slow down the Texans, but the Texans’ defense did a better job of shutting down the Falcons’ offense for the win. Bad news for the Texans as Andre Johnson strained his other hamstring and will miss some time, so now they will have to rely on their running game even more. The Bengals’ stout run defense is a good test this week.

8)      San Francisco 49ers (10-2) [Last Week: 8] – The good news: The 49ers aired it out last week and were successful. The bad news: It was the Rams’ defense. I would like for them to throw more going forward before I’m a real believer in their offense heading into the playoffs.

9)      Atlanta Falcons (7-5) [Last Week: 10] – The Falcons’ defense was impressive against the Texans’ number one ranked run offense, but their offense didn’t do enough to win the game.

10)   New York Giants (6-6) [Last Week: 11] – Which Giants defense will show up this week? After getting blown out by the Saints two weeks ago, they bounced back and pressured Aaron Rodgers and played tight coverage on the Packers’ receivers despite giving up a lot of points. With Ahmad Bradshaw back (albeit not 100%) and their running game restored, will they make a run for the playoffs?

11)   Detroit Lions (7-5) [Last Week: 9] – The Lions are self-destructing right before our eyes. Their players are hurting their team’s chances of winning games by committing stupid penalties. They have also been playing too conservative, as if they don’t believe in their offense anymore, and I blame that on both the offensive coordinator and head coach. Too many screen passes and short slant passes that are easy to pick off and not enough shots downfield. The coaches have also been doing a bad job of getting Calvin Johnson open as he has been shut down for the past few weeks.

12)   Denver Broncos (7-5) [Last Week: 15] – A couple of missed tackles and blown coverage by the secondary allowed the Vikings to score, but the defense as a whole pressured Christian Ponder (without Von Miller) and picked him off twice (one for a score and one that set up the game-winning field goal) at critical times in the game. While Tim Tebow wasn’t able to run against the tough Vikings’ run defense, he displayed great accuracy in his throws and racked up 202 yards on 10/15 passes for two touchdowns. He is improving by the week.

13)   Cincinnati Bengals (7-5) [Last Week: 12] – The Bengals were shut down last week against the Steelers as they only scored seven points with Andy Dalton throwing for 135 yards and one touchdown. Meanwhile, their defense gave up 35 points both through the air and on the ground. They have another tough matchup this week against the Texans.

14)   New York Jets (7-5) [Last Week: Unranked] – Ever since they lost to the Broncos a few weeks ago, Rex Ryan said that they will be playing hard for the remainder of the season and they have done just that. With their backs against the wall, they have been playing at a much higher level on offense, something they weren’t able to do in the first half of the season.

15)   Oakland Raiders (7-5) [Last Week: 13] – The Raiders have been pretty consistent on offense when it comes to running and throwing the ball. Whether they win or lose depends on how well their defense plays.

December 7th Injury Report

Quarterbacks
- Eagles quarterback Michael Vick (ribs) practiced on Wednesday and fully expects to start this week against the Dolphins.
- Waiver by Houston on Tuesday, Kellen Clemens was claimed by the Rams, who are struggling to find a quarterback for their Monday Night showdown against the Seahawks. Both Sam Bradford (ankle) and AJ Feeley (finger) did not practice on Wednesday and are not expected to play this week.
- Chiefs quarterback Kyle Orton was limited in practice on Wednesday after suffering a dislocated finger in Sunday's game against the Bears. If Orton were unable to play, Tyler Palko would make his fourth consecutive start for the Chiefs under center.
- Rex Grossman (shoulder) was a full participant on Wednesday, and will probably be off of the injury list before Sunday's game.
- Josh Freeman did some light throwing on Wednesday, but is still considered to be day-to-day, according to the Bucs' official site.

Running Backs
- Browns running back Peyton Hillis (hip) was in practice for the second straight day, and he is expected to play on Thursday. He is listed as questionable.
- Adrian Peterson says that his ankle is 70 percent. He also said that he wants to play this week, but according to ESPN's John Clayton, he is not "expected" to play. Peterson did not practice on Wednesday.
- James Starks (ankle) did not practice on Wednesday. I did not rank Starks, and I do not expect him to play. Mike McCarthy said that he will be "challenged" to practice this week.
- Saints rookie running back Mark Ingram did not practice on Wednesday because of a turf toe injury. It is not expected to be serious, but practices later in the week will reveal more about the injury.
- Willis McGahee (knee) did not practice today, but his status for Sunday is not in danger.
- Kevin Smith, who reaggravated his ankle injury in week 13, did not practice on Wednesday.
- Patriots running backs Shane Vereen and Stevan Ridley missed practice time on Wednesday. Ridley's absence was not injury related, and Vereen has a hamstring injury and was limited in practice today. Other than those two, Danny Woodhead has an abdomen injury and was limited in practice.

Wide Receivers
- Jeremy Maclin (hamstring) was back at Eagles practice today for the first time in about two weeks. He expects to play this week, and barring any setbacks, he will play and start.
- Cowboys wide receiver Miles Austin is expected to play this week against the Giants after practicing for the first time in over a month on Wednesday. However, Laurent Robsinon (shoulder) did not practice. It should be nothing to worry about as Robinson finished the game on Sunday and the Cowboys tend to be on the cautious side on Wednesday. I think you can expect Robinson back in practice Thursday, and Friday at the latest.
- Giants wide receiver Mario Manningham (knee) was limited in practice on Wednesday, according to Mike Garafolo on Twitter. On the other hand, Hakeem Nicks was taken off of the injury list today.
- 49ers wide receiver Braylon Edwards was limited in practice on Wednesday. Edwards did not play against the Rams in week 13.
- Both Roddy White (shoulder) and Julio Jones (hamstring) were limited at Wednesday's practice. Both are expected to play.
- Raiders wide receiver Denarius Moore did not practice as his foot injury continues to hang around. His status is in doubt for Sunday. As for Jacoby Ford, he also did not practice, but he is hopeful that he will take part in practice sometime this week. If he does not practice tomorrow, then it is likely that he will miss Sunday's game, as the sore foot continues to nag at him.

Tight Ends
- Colts TE Dallas Clark (leg) practiced in full on Wednesday, according to Jim Irsay's on Twitter.
- Panthers tight end Greg Olsen (knee) did not practice Wednesday according to the team's official site.
- Vikings TE Visanthe Shiancoe was a limited participant in practice with a hand injury.

Defense/Others
- Steelers linebacker Lamarr Woodley is unlikely to play Thursday night against the Browns. Woodley re-injured his hamstring in week 13. He missed practice for the second straight day.
- Both Dominqiue Rodgers-Cromartie and Nnamdi Asomugha practiced fully today, and both expect to play on Sunday.
- Giants corner back Kenny Phillips (sprained MCL) did some work on the side in practice today, but did not practice with the team.
- Giants center David Baas' "headaches" are much more severe than first thought, and he went in to get more tests on his head today and will continue to get them throughout the week according to Melissa Stark.
- Packers linebackers AJ Hawk and Desmond Bishop, both with calf injuries, sat out practice today and did not play in week 13. However, Charles Woodson (concussion) did practice today in limited fashion.
- Broncos rookie linebacker practiced on Wednesday with a  cast on his hand. Miller did not play in week 13, a 35-32 win by the Broncos.
- Lions corner back Chris Houston did not practice on Wednesday. He also did not play in week 13 after injuring his knee on Thanksgiving against the Packers. Other than Houston, Nick Fairley was seen in a boot on Wednesday and did not practice. More updates to come later in the week.

December 6, 2011

December 5th and 6th Injury Report

Quarterbacks
- Michael Vick practiced fully on Monday and is expected to play on Sunday against the Dolphins.

- After many rumors that were bouncing around, the Bears have no interest in Brett Favre, according to ESPN's Ed Warder.

- The Rams quarterback Sam Bradford aggravated his ankle injury before week 13. The injury is in almost as bad of shape as it was after he suffered an ankle sprain in Week 6. Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo said that Bradford's ankle injury will not be fully healed until the offseason. Not only is Bradford hurt,  but backup quarterback AJ Feeley has a fracture in his right thumb, and his status is "in doubt" for Monday Night Football against the Seahawks. If both Bradford and Feeley were unable to play this Sunday, Tom Brandstater would likely be the started, barring any signings or an activation from the practice squad.

- Shortly after Kellen Clemens was waived by the Texans on Tuesday; Jeff Garcia, who worked out for the Texans in week 11 and week 12, was signed by the team to become the backup quarterback to rookie quarterback TJ Yates.

Running Backs
- According to Vikings head coach Leslie Frasier, Adrian Peterson is close to returning.

- Peyton Hillis (hip) participated in team drills in practice on Tuesday, and is expected to play against the Steelers on Thursday.

- As you probably already know, Matt Forte has no ACL damage, but does have a sprained MCL. Forte will likely miss anywhere from 2-4 weeks, but could miss up to six, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The sprain in a grade two sprain. Marion Barber will start, but it is expected to split carries with Kahlil Bell.

Wide Receivers
- Andre Johnson is day to day with a hamstring injury. More on Johnson later in the week.

- Jeremy Maclin (hamstring) expects to return to practice on Wednesday to test his hamstring. He is hopeful that he will play this week.

- Broncos wide receiver Eddie Royal suffered a concussion on Sunday against the Vikings on punt return duties.

Miles Austin is expected to play this week, barring any setback, on Sunday Night Football against the Giants. Both Laurent Robison and Austin are wide receiver two options this week.

Tight Ends
- The NFL announced that Redskins tight end Fred Davis will be suspended for four games, meaning that he will miss the remainder of the 2011 season. Davis has failed three tests for marijuana, and if he were to violate the league's substance policy again, then he would serve a one year suspension. The Redskins starting tight end Chris Cooley was placed on injured reserve earlier this year.

Defense/Others
- Colts cornerback Jerraud Powers dislocated his left elbow and will miss the remainder of the season.

- The Falcons have already ruled out cornerback Brent Grimes against the Panthers.

- Chris Hoke's career could come to an end after neck surgery.

- Patrick Willis is expected to miss one game with a hamstring injury. Larry Grant is likely to start in his place.

- The Ravens LB Ray Lewis is expected to be back in week 15, after missing the last two weeks with a toe injury,

Week 13 Pickups

By: Gabriel Harber

Howdy folks and welcome to the last week we’ll share together.  Sad, I know.  I’ll be traveling for most of December which means I’ll be unable to catch the weekend action in a timely fashion.  I’ll have to rough it like my grandpappy did before the interwebs and all that jazz.  Oh well, I’m sure I’ll be replaced by someone far more talented but much less good looking.  Happy trails and see you in the championship.

Pick Ups
Dan Orlovsky:  Out of nowhere came Orlovsky on Sunday, painting us a picture that made us completely forget Curtis.  Yes it was the Patriots, and yes the playoff schedule is brutal, but if you’ve had injury problems or are in a 2 QB league, any starting quarterback sitting on the wire this late in the season is a godsend.  There’s enough talent surrounding him that he should be able to piece together some reasonable stats in the upcoming weeks.

TJ Yates:  Anyone who watched Sunday’s contest knows that the end result for Yates was much more impressive than the final stats indicated.  The athletic talent from North Carolina was asked to manage the game and allow Arian Foster and the defense to win it.  He looked extremely poised and one can only imagine that as he becomes more acclimated to his role that Gary Kubiak will open up the offense for him a bit.  Keep an eye on Andre Johnson’s hamstring aggravation as it could go a long way towards determining Yates’ value.

Donald Brown:  As predicted, Brown has secured the leading backfield role in an offense that suddenly has a little life to it.  The more the Colts receivers continue to improve upon their hot streak, the more value Brown will hold during the stretch run.

Marion Barber:  In my opinion the must add of the week is Barber.  A reeling Bears team has revealed itself to be less than capable of chucking it through the air and suddenly finds itself without its best offensive weapon, and the facilitator of over 50 percent of its total offense, Matt Forte.  I would grab Barber and hope we see a renaissance over the last four games reminiscent of his time in Dallas that earned him the nickname “Barbarian.”

CJ Spiller/Toby Gerhart/Roy Helu:  These three should already be owned in every league, regardless of format.  I’m simply listing them as a reminder so that if one happened to slip through the cracks you can pounce.  I rate them Helu, Gerhart, and Spiller.  Spiller would be second but there are rumors coming out of Minnesota that the Vikings may shut down Adrian Peterson for the season in order to protect their investment.

Demaryius Thomas:  I had a strong feeling that Thomas would step into prominence this weekend, and stopped myself just short of adding him to last week’s pick ups article and my FanDuel article on another site.  I wish I had pulled the trigger as I would have looked like a genius, but now I just look like another idiot.  Regardless of how you view it, it breaks down like this; Thomas is the Broncos purest talent at wideout and is an impressive physical specimen.  Decker, while providing an excellent safety valve for an emerging Tim Tebow, will fall into a natural WR2 role in Denver as Thomas is simply too good to stay silent for much longer.

Reggie Wayne/Pierre Garcon/Jacob Tamme/Dallas Clark:  You may find that over the course of the season some very impatient owners dropped one of these guys (I dropped Garcon after week 10 myself.)  It really says something about how bad a quarterback is when he can take talent like this and render it waiver wire fodder, but that’s exactly what the Curtis Painter era accomplished in Indy.  Now that Dandy Dan Orlovsky is firing rockets (I kid) the Colts offense resembles a living entity once again.  There’s no guarantees here as the playoff schedule is as rough as anyone’s, but there is certainly some sky-high upside should you choose to take the risk.

Visante Shiancoe:  Shiancoe has been mostly quiet this year, but a few factors have me convinced that he’ll be relevant for the last few weeks of the season.  One, Adrian Peterson may be out for the remainder of the season which means a definite uptick in looks for the other offensive players, and two, his schedule.  Once you get past a Lions defense that hasn’t really been intimidating anyone lately, you have one of the softer set of matchups for any tight end in the league over the last four weeks.

Thanks for reading this year folks and have a great holiday!

Be sure to give me a follow here.

December 4th Injury Report

By: Christian Hardy

Quarterbacks
- The Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman (shoulder) will not play today against the Panthers. Josh Johnson, whom Josh Freeman replaced a few years ago when Johnson went down with an injury, will start in place of the injured Freeman.
- Kyle Orton is active for the Chiefs. Ricky Stanzi is not. UPDATE: Orton came in for one play in the second quarter of Sunday's game and went down with a hand injury. It was later revelaed that he has a dislocated index finger in his right (throwing) hand. If he were to miss the season, the Chiefs would still be required to pay Orton $2.5 Million, making this one of the most expensive plays in sports history.
- Sam Bradford was inactive for the Rams today with an ankle injury. The Rams were shut out against the 49ers today without Bradford (26-0).
- Kevin Kolb was active and started against the Cowboys, as expected.
- Bengals rookie quarterback Andy Dalton left some of Sunday's game with a hip injury, and as, in the mean time, replaced by Bruce Gradkowski. Dalton eventualy returned to the game, which was already out of hand.

Running Backs
- Kevin Smith (ankle) is expected to play and start tonight against the Saints. UPDATE: Kevin Smith was active for Sunday Night's game.
- Ahmad Bradshaw is expected to make his first start since October today. UPDATE: Bradshaw will be a game-time decision for the game against the Packers. Come game-time, Bradshaw was active.
- Adrian Peterson (ankle) could miss week 14, too.
- Falcons RB Michael Turner will be active, according to reports. UPDATE: Turner is active.
- Bengals RB Cedric Benson (foot) is active for the Bengals.
- Darren McFadden is officially inactive.
- Danny Woodhead, who was deemed as a game-time decision, is active for today's game.
- Colts RB Joseph Addai is active. He was listed as questionable.
- Jets RB Ladanian Tomlinson is active.
- Bears RB Matt Forte has a grade two MCL sprain and will miss "up to six week", but the likely return table is two to four, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. It's a tough break for the Bears, who now have two of their biggest pieces of their offense, Jay Cutler and Matt Forte, more than likely done for the remainder of the regular season.
- Packers RB James Starks aggravated his ankle injury in the second quarter of Sunday's game. It is unclear the condition of Starks' injury, but he was ruled out of the game in the third quarter of what was a close game. He rushed five times for three yards before leaving the game.

Wide Receivers
- Julio Jones will be active today for the Falcons. UPDATE: Jones is active.
- Despite illness, Percy Harvin will start today against the Broncos. He is officially active.
- Both Raiders wide receivers Denarius Moore and Jacoby Ford are inactive.
- As expected, Giants wide receiver Mario Manningham was inactive. Both Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz, who missed some time in practice this week, were active.
- Texans WR Andre Johnson injured his hamstring today against the Falcons. The Texans went on to win hte game with rookie quarterback TJ Yates, but for Johnson and the Texans, there was a price to pay. According to sources, it is not the same hamstring that he has injured twice this year (right), but rather, it is the left hamstring that he injured in this game. According to Rotoworld, the injury is "not as serious" and we could see him back in action as soon as this week. We will know more tomorrow after an MRI, but as of now, it is not being seen as severe.
- Browns RB Peyton Hillis, who recently returned from a hamstring injury, was not in the locker room after the game with what is being called an "undisclosed injury" according to coach Pat Shurmur. Shurmur said that he does not think that Hillis aggravated his hamstring. Shurmur gave no details as to why Hillis was not in the locker room after Sunday's loss to the Ravens.

Tight Ends
- Bengals TE Donald Lee is inactive.

Defense/Others
- Broncos rookie MLB Von Miller is likely to miss today's game against the Broncos, per NFL Network's Jason La Canfora. UPDATE: Von Miller is inactive after getting surgery on his hand earlier this week.
- Giants LB Michael Boley is expected to play today.
- The Vikings cornerbacks Asher Allen and Chris Cook are both inactive today.
- As expected, the Redskins safety LaRon Landry is inactive.
- Steelers LB LaMarr Woodley, listed as probable with a hamstring, is active today. Troy Polamalu (concussion) is also inactive.
- Bengals CB Nate Clements is inactive.
- As expected, Falcons CB Kelvin Hayden is inactive. As is Brent Grimes.
- Bills kicker Rian Lindell is inactive.
- Adam Schefter said "It would not be a surprise if he is inactive", in regards to Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis.
- Raiders LB Rolando McClain is active for today's game against the Dolphins.
- Devin McCourty is active for the Patriots secondary, after missing time with a separated shoulder. Julian Edelman is also active. Patrick Chung, however, is inactive.
- Giants center David Baas was inactive against the Packers today because of "headaches".
- Packers Pro Bowl cornerback Charles Woodson left the game against the Giants with a head injury and was later ruled questionable for the remainder of the game. He never returned to the game after straining his injury.
- Giants SS Kenny Phillips has a sprained MCL according to ProFootballTalk. He is expected to "miss a few weeks", but the MRI tomorrow will reveal more. More on Phillips tomorrow.

December 2nd Injury Report

Quarterbacks
- Josh Freeman (thumb) decision to play will go all the way up to game-time, according to head coach Raheem Moore. If he plays, he has an extremely fantasy-friendly matchup going against Carolina. Josh Johnson has taken first team reps in practice, and will start if Freeman is out.
- A couple moves on waivers today for quarterbacks that were recently released. Donovan McNabb, released by the Vikings on Thursday, was not claimed on waivers on Friday, and his agent has not been contacted by any teams, according to ESPN's NFL Insider Adam Schefter. Other than McNabb, Sage Rosenfels, released off the NFI list by the Dolphins earlier this week, took McNabb's spot on the Vikings' 53-man roster. McNabb was released after being moved behind Joe Webb on the depth chart and in practice, according to ProFootballTalk. The Cowboys and Bears were both rumored to put in claims on McNabb, but decided to pass on the 35 year old quarterback.
- According to KCChiefs.com, Tyler Palko will start on Sunday over Kyle Orton, as expected.

Running Backs
- Adrian Peterson (ankle) did not practice and has been ruled out for this week's game against the Denver Tebows. Toby Gerhart will get his second consecutive start.
- Willis McGahee (illness) practiced today, and is listed as probable. He is fully expected to play this weekend.
- Montario Hardesty practiced today and is expects to play this week. He is listed as questionable with a calf injury.
- Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw (foot) was in his first practice since October 30th on Friday. According to ESPN's John Clayton, Bradshaw "should be able to play" if he does not suffer any setbacks.
- Michael Turner (groin) returned to a full practice today, and, barring any setbacks, should start this week against the Texans.
- Beanie Wells (knee) has become a reoccurring issue for fantasy owners. He struggles to stay in practice, but his performance on Sunday pays off. This week he was at full practice on Friday, and should be good to go this week.
- Colts RB Joseph Addai did not practice and is listed as questionable.

Wide Receivers
- Miles Austin did not practice on Friday, and was ruled out for his fifth consecutive game. Laurent Robinson will get another start opposite of Dez Bryant.
- Percy Harvin (illness) did not practice on Friday. He is expected to start on Sunday, and is listed as questionable.
- Eddie Royal (toe) was limited in practice today, and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game.
- Lots of news swirling around the Giants' wide receivers. Hakeem Nicks, who missed practice earlier this week with a rib injury, was a full participant in practice on Friday and is listed as probable for Sunday. Victor Cruz, who popped up on the injury report on Tuesday of this week with a hip injury, is also listed as probable. However, it is a different story for Mario Manningham, who acknowledged that his season could be in jeopardy due to a lingering knee injury on Thursday. Manningham did not practice on Friday and is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the undefeated Packers.
- Raiders wide receivers Denarius Moore (foot) and Jacoby Ford (foot) will both miss Sunday's game against the Dolphins. The two practiced on a limited basis at times this week, but, obviously, neither will be ready to go for Sunday. I like Darrius Heyward-Bey, and I ranked him like Moore and Ford would miss.
- Julio Jones returned to practice on Friday, after missing practice on Wednesday and Thursday with a hamstring injury. He was a limited participant and is listed as questionable, but is expected to play. For fantasy owners, I would stay away until he produces.
-Andre Johnson was a limited participant in practice with a knee injury, as he has been all week. He is listed as probable, and should be a go for Sunday.

Tight Ends
- Bengals TE Donald Lee, who has missed the last thee games with a foot injury, was limited in practice today and is listed as questionable.
- Once again, Buccaneers tight end Kellen Winslow did not practice for non-injury related reasons. Should be good to go on Sunday.
- Titans tight end Jared Cook suffered a concussion last week, but will be a green light on Sunday. He practiced in full on Friday.

Defense/Others
- Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora (ankle) has been ruled out for week 13, and he should miss at least two more weeks with a serious ankle injury. Other than Osi on the defensive side, Mark Herzlich, who made his first NFL start last week, is also out for this week.
- Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan ruled LaRon Landry out for week 13 in Friday's press conference.
- The injury to Russel Okung's pectoral muscle is as serious as first thought: After an MRI on Friday, it was confirmed that Okung has a torn pectoral muscle and would miss the rest of the season. This is Okung's second NFL season and he was drafted with the sixth overall pick of the 2010 NFL Draft out of Oklahoma State.
- Packers linebackers Desmond Bishop and AJ Hawk were ruled out for Sunday's game. Both have calf injuries that could keep them sidelined for another week or two.
- Vikings CB Asher Allen (shoulder) was limited in practice on Friday, and is listed as questionable. Linebacker EJ Henderson also has a shoulder injury, was limited in practice and is also questionable.
- Steelers safety Troy Polamalu, who suffered "concussion-like" symptoms in last Sunday night's game, was a full participant in practice and is listed as probable.Linebacker Lamarr Woodley has missed the last three games with a hamstring injury. While being close to a return the last couple of weeks, it looks like this is the week that Woodley will return. He is listed as probable and has been a full participant in practice all week.
- Cardinals safety Kerry Rhodes was limited in practice on Friday, but is doubtful for Sunday. Linebacker Joey Porter was also limited today, and is also doubtful.
- Lions cornerback Chris Houston did not practice all week with a foot injury and is not expected to play after injuring it last week against the Packers.
- After missing the last three games with a knee injury, it is very likely that we could finally see Saints' middle linebacker Jonathan Vilma back on the field. He had a full practice on Friday, and is listed as probable.
- Buccaneers defensive tackle Brian Price is questionable for Sunday and was limited in practice on Friday. If he were to sit out, Da'Quan Bowers would start in his place.

It's DECEMBER: Injury Report

By: Christian Hardy

Quarterbacks
- After the Texans signed two veteran quarterbacks in the past week, the Dolphins decided to release Sage Rosenfels from the non-football illness list. I do not expect him to be claimed on waivers, but could see a team signing him after he goes through the NFL's waiver process.
- Buccaneers QB Josh Freeman (thumb on throwing hand) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice and he was never seen throwing the football. Coach Raheem Morris said that this situation will go all the way up to game-time. Freeman has a great matchup against Carolina this week, so it would be a shame, should he have to miss it. If Freeman were to miss it, Josh Johnson would be the starter at quarterback for the Bucs.
- Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Kevin Kolb (toe, foot) will start this week against the Cowboys, despite John Skelton going 3-1 as a starter.
- Sam Bradford missed practice on Thursday after suffering a setback with his injured ankle. He is "day to day", according to the Rams official Twitter account.
- Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger did not finish practice today after taking a bad snap that hit his fractured right thumb in the wrong spot. After practice he said that he is "OK".
- Former Eagles, Redskins, and now Vikings quarterback Donovan McNabb was released by the Vikings on Thursday. As of now, Leslie Frasier said he does not know a team that will take McNabb on waivers. I do know, however, that the Cowboys, who put a claim in on Kyle Orton last week, are not interested, according to multiple sources. Looks like the Vikings will stick with their rookie Christian Ponder for the rest of the year.
- According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Peyton Manning's doctor said that Manning is ready to move onto the next stage of his rehab. He also stated that his neck fusion has "achieved firm fixation." Manning is still waiting on nerve regeneration before he can return to football.

Running Backs
- The player of the day: Lesean McCoy. He was talked about all day long, leading up to Thursday Night Football, because of his sprained toe. He was listed as questionable and was determined to be a game-time decision for the game. It held up in warm ups and he was named the starter just about an hour before the game. Seattle has a tough run defense, but there is no way that I would even consider benching McCoy, not even with an injury that could limit him.
- Darren McFadden and Adrian Peterson both did not practice. They are both not expected to play this week, and their status for week 14 is in question.
- Ahmad Bradshaw did not practice and will likely miss this week's game, at the least. The foot still does not feel completely healed, and the Giants know that they have to be real careful with an injury like this; once rumored to be gone for the season. Looks like Brandon Jacobs will continue to fill in for Bradshaw, with DJ Ware taking a back seat.
- Michael Turner did not practice on Thursday, and he has not all week. His groin, that was surgically repaired in the offseason, has bothered him all season, but it has gotten worse and worse. Definitely keep an eye on Turner's status for Sunday.
- Lions running back Kevin Smith was a limited participant in practice on Thursday, but multiple beat writers reported that he ran very well on his sprained ankle.
- Cedric Benson (groin) missed practice on Thursday, but Joe Reedy, beat writer for the Bengals, said that Benson will likely be probable for Sunday.
- Cowboys FB Tony Fiammetta is still down with an illness and missed practice on Thursday.

Wide Receivers
- Miles Austin was not at Thursday's practice and is not expected to play this week.
- Hakeem Nicks did not participate in Thursday's practice but is expected to be back for Friday.
- Playing opposite of Nicks, Mario Manningham also did not practice. He acknowledged that he could be done for the season due to a swollen knee that feels "weak and not stable," according to Ralph Vacchiano on Twitter. Sounds like Manningham is going to at least miss this week, and as he said, could be done for the season. It's a good thing they found another gem (Victor Cruz) in the wide receiver corps.
- Texans WR Andre Johnson was a limited participant in practice for the second consecutive day on Thursday with a knee injury. Johnson returned from a hamstring injury in week 12 that had kept him out for six weeks.
- Falcons rookie wide receiver Julio Jones did not practice today with a hamstring injury.
- Denarius Moore (foot) did not participate in practice. Jacoby Ford, also, did not practice.
- Patriots wide receiver (if you still call him that) Chad Ochocinco (hamstring) was limited in practice, as was WR Taylor Price.
- After missing practice on Wednesday, Victor Cruz (hip) returned to limited practice on Thursday.
- 49ers WR Braylon Edwards did not practice today with a knee injury.

Tight Ends
- Dallas Clark was ruled out for this week's game against the Patriots.

Defense/Others
- Ravens LB Ray Lewis (turf toe), you might of hear of him, sat out practice again on Thursday.
- Lions CB Chris Houston (knee) did not practice for his third consecutive day on Thursday.
- Cowboys CB Mike Jenkins and S Gerald Sensabaugh were both limited in practice on Thursday.
- Patriots S Patrick Chung was limited in practice, as was WR/DB Julian Edelmen.
- Packers LBs AJ Hawk and Desmond Bishop both did not practice, as expected, on Thursday.

Week 13 Power Rankings

By Anh Vo

1)      Green Bay Packers (11-0) – The only knock on this team is that they still don’t have a running game, but their superior passing game makes up for it as no team has been able to stop them. Every player on their receiving corp is dangerous (with the exception of Donald Driver) and they all run great routes. Their defense is just as good as last season. While they do give up yards and points occasionally, they make up for those with big plays at critical times. If the Packers can get James Starks to turn it on again like he did in the playoffs last season they will be a sure bet to win the Super Bowl again.

2)      New England Patriots (8-3) – The Patriots offense will always be prolific so long as Tom Brady is out there, however, they still lack the deep threat in that offense. They hoped that void would be filled when they signed Chad Ochocinco, but that hasn’t worked out. Meanwhile, until they can fix their defense, you can’t label them as the favorites with confidence to come out of the AFC. However, surprisingly, their defense has improved as of late despite injuries to their starters as they have been able to pressure opposing quarterbacks pretty well. Will they continue to improve on defense? And will it sustain through the playoffs? We’ll see.

3)      Baltimore Ravens (8-3) – The Ravens will always go as far as their defense takes them, and as of late, they have been on a tear. Even with an injured Ray Lewis they still hold their ground. Ray Rice has been playing well, but not as well as many would expect coming into the season. He’s getting the touchdowns, but has only had four games where he rushed for more than 75 yards. As for Joe Flacco, he’s had a pretty disappointing season thus far statistically. His receiving corp is better this season compared to last season, yet he hasn’t shown any improvement in his game. He needs to play at a higher level if the Ravens want to get over the hump in the playoffs.

4)      New Orleans Saints (8-3) – If there is any team that can challenge the Packers in the NFC, it would be the Saints. They have the quarterback and fire power on offense that can match that of the Packers, but their defense is still a liability. They utilize their receivers the same way the Packers do, and they have one player who is practically unguardable in Jimmy Graham. He’s too fast for linebackers, and too tall for defensive backs. I like how they are finally establishing a consistent running game as of late with Pierre Thomas, Mark Ingram, and Darren Sproles. This is the one part in their game that they do have over the Packers. If they can somehow improve their secondary going into the playoffs, I wouldn’t be surprised if they edge out the Packers in an upset.

5)      Pittsburgh Steelers (8-3) – The Steelers have taken a step back, but the Steelers are still the Steelers and they will find ways to win. The defense isn’t the same defense that strikes fear in opponents anymore, but they are still good. Ben Roethlisberger isn’t as good this season compared to last season (partly due to his thumb injury), but he is still efficient enough to carry the team. The passing game is still there, but the Steelers really need to re-establish their running game. Rashard Mendenhall has six rushing touchdowns, but only one game where he topped 100 yards, and that is simply not enough. If the Steelers want to go far in the playoffs again they will need Rashard Mendenhall to get going and also for their offensive line to do a better job at opening up holes for him to run through.

6)      Dallas Cowboys (7-4) – Ever since DeMarco Murray took over the duties at running back, the Cowboys became a complete team. The team was already good all around, but the only thing they lacked was a good running game when Felix Jones was in the backfield. They have since filled that void with the new rookie, who is much more explosive, and have won their last four games. They have also found another weapon in Laurent Robinson, who has become a touchdown machine in the last several games. When Miles Austin and Mike Jenkins get healthy, they will be a really dangerous team.

7)      Houston Texans (8-3) – If this team was completely healthy, there’s no doubt I would have ranked them up there with the Packers. Initially, they were a complete team, but then both Matt Schaub and Matt Leinart went down, and now they are left with their third-string quarterback. However, I trust Gary Kubiak when it comes to evaluating talent, and if he said he liked T.J. Yates at the start of training camp then I trust that he is a pretty good quarterback who will be able to do enough to keep the Texans going. The Texans have the number one overall defense, the best offensive line, and the best running game in the league, so all T.J. Yates has to do is not turn the ball over and keep the drives going on offense.

8)      San Francisco 49ers (9-2) – I know they have the second best record in the league, but hey, let’s be honest, they still don’t have a passing game. On Thanksgiving Day, they were exposed when they played the tough Ravens defense that contained the run and forced the 49ers to beat them through the air, and they couldn’t do it. The 49ers have the same talent they had last season, with the exception of Braylon Edwards (who has been banged up and a non-factor), Donte Whitner, and a few new rookies. The biggest difference is that this season they have a good coach who is really competitive and has the team playing hard. This team reminds me of the New York Jets two seasons ago. They have a really good defense and a good running game on offense. All the quarterback has to do is just manage the game and throw when necessary to keep the drives alive. But let’s not forget who we’re talking about here… (Alex Smith). He’s still the same Alex Smith that has poor accuracy, makes poor decisions, can’t be trusted to throw the ball down the field, and turns the ball over, whether it be interceptions or fumbles.

9)      Detroit Lions (7-4) – The Lions sure have lost some steam since the start of the season, but they are still a very dangerous passing team. But it looks like they finally have a running game with the resurrection of Kevin Smith…but then he went down with an ankle sprain. However, it is a good thing that it is only minor so he should be back soon. Some help in the backfield now helps alleviate the pain on Matthew Stafford’s throwing finger, as he would not have to throw as much. The Lions’ defense has been tamed as of late, and will now be hurting more without Ndamukong Suh for the next two games. Their biggest concern though is their secondary, as they have been burned by opposing receivers, and it does not help with Chris Houston out with a knee injury. Let’s see how the Lions respond in the next few games.

10)   Atlanta Falcons (7-4) – Their passing attack hasn’t been stellar as many anticipated going into the season, but they have improved in the last few games compared to the start of the season. Tony Gonzalez has bounced back this season and has been a reliable target for Matt Ryan, but Roddy White hasn’t been as good as they had hoped. Now with Julio Jones banged up again, it will be interesting to see how Harry Douglas will do in the next upcoming games. There are reports that Michael Turner is now dealing with a groin injury, which is going to hurt them going forward. With a history of groin injuries, if this continues to linger, the Falcons might have to ease up on his work load to keep him healthy. The Falcons defense has been on and off this season, as they do give up a good amount of points, but they do have a good run defense. Their defense will have to be more consistent now to compensate for the injuries of Julio Jones and Michael Turner if they want to make the playoffs.

11)   New York Giants (6-5) – The defense is banged up right now, and it showed in the last game with the Saints when they got lit up for 49 points. The Giants have not been the same ever since Ahmad Bradshaw fractured his foot. He is much quicker and a better slasher than Brandon Jacobs, and that really hurts their offense because now Eli Manning has to throw a lot more. Hakeem Nicks hasn’t been playing well, and Mario Manningham is hurt, so it has been the “Eli Manning and Victor Cruz Show,” which won’t be enough for their difficult schedule coming up.

12)   Cincinnati Bengals (7-4) – The Bengals have been surprising thus far on both sides of the field. Andy Dalton has been playing really well for a rookie and so has A.J. Green. They are a balanced team on offense, and Cedric Benson has been consistently good, but not spectacular. The defense has been good at containing the run, but their already suspect secondary is now gonna take a step back with their top cornerback Leon Hall out for the season. It will be interesting to see if the Bengals can maintain their success against the tough Steelers and Texans defense coming up.

13)   Oakland Raiders (7-4) – The Raiders have played well despite having a new quarterback in the system and not having Darren McFadden. Michael Bush has filled in nicely and the defense has made some big plays and forcing turnovers in the last three games. However, their receiving corp has been shaky due to inconsistency and injuries, so we’ll see how well their passing game does for the remainder of the season as they will be forced to pass more to remain in the game against high offensive teams. I still have my concerns with Carson Palmer though, as he does turn the ball over quite often when taking a lot of shots downfield.

14)   Chicago Bears (7-4) – I know what you’re thinking: “What the heck?! Why are the Bears ranked so low?!” Unless Caleb Hanie catches fire spontaneously, this team is starting to fizzle out quick. They have average receivers, a weak offensive line, and now they have a quarterback who will be turning the ball over even more. Their defense has been great, but now they will be seeing the field even more as the offense will struggle to keep drives alive.

15)   Denver Broncos (6-5) – The Broncos are on a roll right now. Winning four in a row, and five of their last six games, the new defensive coordinator Dennis Allen has the defense playing hard right now. Pressuring the opposing quarterback has been the biggest factor with Von Miller and Elvis Dumervil on both ends. Meanwhile, Tim Tebow has been doing a good job of running the ball, making good, accurate passes at critical times, and not turning the ball over. It also looks like Willis McGahee is slowly coming back to form as he had some nice runs in the last game against the Chargers. As long as the Broncos can keep the games close, Tim Tebow and the Broncos’ running game will have a very good chance of sneaking out victories.
